When Yang Tian arrived at the door of dormitory 421 on the fourth floor, the door had already been warped by fire. Inside, several girls were frantically pounding on it, their cries and shouts echoing through the hallway. He quickly realized this was an electrical fire, likely caused by someone illegally using electricity inside. At this time, the school didn’t have automatic circuit breakers yet, so any short circuit from improper use could easily lead to a fire.

Yang Tian gestured rapidly at the door, found the right spot, and kicked it hard. With a loud crash, the door shook but didn’t collapse. The girls inside screamed louder, calling for help.

Yang Tian stepped back a few paces, steadied his breathing, gathered more strength, and kicked again. This time, the door and its frame flew off.

The girls inside screamed together and rushed out, while applause erupted from downstairs. Disaster had been averted, no one was hurt, and now they only needed to wait for the fire brigade.

“Isn’t that Yang Tian?”

“Yes, the legend from last year at our school—Victory High’s eternal hero!”

“It really is him! I thought he was studying at Binhai No. 1 High School. Why is he here?”

“You don’t know anything. His little sister is still at our school. He comes every weekend to see her! Thank goodness he was here today, or this could have ended badly for us!”

The students downstairs discussed animatedly.

Meanwhile, Yang Tian was searching the room for Zhang Xinyu. Seven barely dressed girls had rushed out, but Zhang Xinyu was nowhere to be seen.

“Xinyu!” Yang Tian called loudly.

At that moment, someone poked their head out from a bed nearby. Yang Tian saw it was Zhang Xinyu, earphones still on, as if she had been listening to something.

“Brother!” Zhang Xinyu burst into laughter, jumped off the bed, and leaped into Yang Tian’s arms. Only after holding him tightly did she begin to cry, “I was so scared!”

Without another word, Yang Tian scooped her up and ran outside. By now, the bedding and books in the room were ablaze, flames raging, thick smoke billowing through the fourth floor. All the students in the girls’ dormitory had already been evacuated.

The choking smoke filled the air. Yang Tian, holding Zhang Xinyu, jumped straight down from the fourth floor. The crowd below was tense, screams rising, but when Yang Tian landed safely with Zhang Xinyu and strode over, everyone was astonished and quickly gathered around them.

Zhang Xinyu clung to Yang Tian, crying hard. “Brother, I knew you’d come for me!”

After a moment, she took off her earphones and gently placed them on Yang Tian’s ears. A nostalgic melody, “Yesterday Once More,” drifted out: “When I was young, I’d listen to the radio, waiting for my favorite songs…”

Yang Tian was stunned. He understood the sorrow in Zhang Xinyu’s heart. This was her last semester of junior high, and both her studies and life were stressful. Zhang Qiang and Fang Li were busy opening a branch factory in Binhai, likely leaving little time to be with her. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have moved into the school dormitory.

“Brother, I really miss the days when you tutored me!” Zhang Xinyu wept. “When the fire started, everyone was crying and banging on the door, trying to get out. I didn’t. I just lay quietly on the bed, listening to this song, not crying. Whenever I miss you, I listen to this song. Whenever I hear it, I miss you even more. In those moments, I’m not afraid of anything. I know you’ll come to protect me, and I’ll be safe!”

“Mmm. From now on, I’ll always protect you,” Yang Tian said, stroking her hair and smiling, though feeling guilty. Every time he came to Victory High, it was to see Yang Xueling, never Zhang Xinyu. Many times, she chased after him, but he always found an excuse to leave.

Yang Tian knew the little girl wanted to join them, but she was aware she wasn’t as close to him as Yang Xueling was, and that Yang Tian came specifically to see Yang Xueling. She never wanted to intrude.

Tutoring Zhang Xinyu was a fond memory for Yang Tian as well, though at the time, he didn’t pay much attention to her. He tutored her just to earn money for a bicycle, so he could take Huang Juan to and from school, sparing her the agony of motion sickness.

He never imagined those days would leave such a deep impression on Zhang Xinyu, who longed to return to that joyful time.

“Xinyu, are you alright?” Yang Xueling’s voice came from the crowd. School leaders, teachers, and students gathered around.

“Yang Tian? How are you here?” Li Gang, head of the Discipline Office, was surprised to see him.

“I’m here to see my sister,” Yang Tian replied politely, glancing at Yang Xueling beside him.

“Oh? She’s your sister? No wonder she’s as smart as you! Haha!” Li Gang laughed heartily, his kindly face relaxed. Thankfully Yang Tian was here; otherwise, by the time the fire brigade arrived, Victory High might have suffered a major disaster.

Around them, applause grew louder. Some celebrated the narrow escape, others admired Yang Tian, the legend of Victory High, and still others marveled at his skill and the beauty of his two sisters.

Zhang Xinyu, still shaken by the ordeal, wanted Yang Tian to stay with her longer, but he had to hurry off to a dinner engagement, so he left for Binhai that night.

Before leaving, he promised Zhang Xinyu that from now on, whenever he came to see Yang Xueling, he would invite her along, and the three of them would spend time together.

Binhai City, Golden Coast Grand Hotel

This was the most famous hotel in Binhai City, bustling with activity. Tonight, it was especially lively, as the large private room “Purple Cloud Pavilion” on the fifteenth floor welcomed distinguished guests.

Among them were Deputy Mayor Lang Ping; Jiang Nan, Director and Deputy Director of the Binhai Cultural Bureau; Yuan Shan, Director of the Land Management Bureau; Zhang Siguo, Director of the Construction Bureau; and the hostess, Zhang Xiuxiu, daughter of renowned Taiwan businessman Zhang Youcai.

“Xiuxiu, didn’t you say there would be another special guest tonight? Why haven’t they arrived?” Deputy Mayor Lang Ping asked Zhang Xiuxiu with a smile. Since Construction Bureau Director Zhang Siguo was Zhang Youcai’s younger brother and Xiuxiu’s uncle, everyone addressed her affectionately.

“Uncle Lang, don’t worry. He’ll be here soon! Speaking of him, I dare say besides you, Uncle Jiang and Uncle Yuan will like him very much too!” Xiuxiu smiled sweetly. She planned to open an investment company in Binhai and naturally wanted to build good relations with these people.

“Oh, really? Now I’m curious—who could possibly win everyone’s favor like that? Haha!” Jiang Nan and Yuan Shan exchanged smiles. In Xiuxiu’s presence, they acted like elders, and with Zhang Siguo there, their relationship with Xiuxiu was quickly becoming close.
