Chapter Ninety-One: Three Transformations
The giant was now suspended in the air, bound by chains and battered by surges of electricity. The sight made the guards grip their guns even tighter. Xiao Tianci’s heart was torn between worry and hesitation. Should he let the guards step in or not? He knew his own limits all too well; in a battle that had already surpassed every boundary, he was nothing more than a child who knew nothing.
Michel stood by and watched coldly. He understood Fang Meng’s strength better than before, and what he felt most of all was anticipation. The gap between the first transformation and the second was like the distance between heaven and earth. If after the second transformation even the combined efforts of his two subordinates could only bring him to this point, then what kind of thing would the third become?
A long-lost excitement surged through Michel. He now hungered to see Fang Meng transform. He wanted to compare this master’s so-called strongest warrior with himself and find out who was truly the mightiest. He wanted to prove that he was the most exceptional, the most formidable.
High in the air, the giant knew that if he did not break free now, he would truly be finished. The inner power of his body had already begun to scatter. Drawing a deep breath, his eyes suddenly flashed with brilliance.
“Open for me!”
With a thunderous crack, his body swelled yet again. The third transformation had finally arrived. The iron chains, hissing with sparks, turned fragile in an instant and shattered with a crash.
John froze. The giant, already enormous in midair, had grown even larger. Now nearly five meters tall, the humanoid giant had truly appeared. Before John could even react, a massive palm came crashing down.
“John, move!”
Even Michel reacted too slowly. By the time John tried to dodge, it was already too late. Michel thrust both hands forward, erecting a barrier around him, shielding John within it. But the giant now ignored Michel’s distant defense altogether and slapped John, who was still rooted in place, dead on the spot.
Michel, controlling his defense from afar, was already at a disadvantage, and the energy sustaining it was linked to him. When it was shattered by such overwhelming force, and with his own injuries still unhealed, the damage compounded upon itself. Then, seeing his friend, who had grown up beside him, struck dead by the giant, he spat out a mouthful of blood.
Stans watched helplessly as his good friend was killed by that single blow, stunned into silence. The three of them had been taken in by their master and had always been the best of partners, working together for so many years without ever suffering a mishap.
Michel was the leader of the ability unit, and since the three of them had never failed when acting together before, he had not brought anyone else this time. Who could have imagined that the giant would be even more terrifying than the rumors said? Before, the two of them had still been able to fight him; but after the third transformation, there was simply no comparison. At the very least, Stans knew that even if one had wanted to dodge that strike, there would have been nowhere to escape.
Not only Xiao Tianci, but everyone present was seeing the giant’s third transformation for the first time. No one had expected it to be so monstrous. At this moment, he was truly a giant colossus.
Glinz never would have imagined that Chief Butler Lin Jian was actually such a skilled marksman, able to fire two guns at once, both hands shooting simultaneously. But there was no time left to think about it. In that instant, with the chief butler and Xiao Tianci moving at once, he had only one option. No matter how he evaded, he could not completely avoid the attack.
Crossing his arms and driving power through his legs, he dropped sharply downward, avoiding the two bullets from above. But the two from below struck his arm squarely. He was a master of physical combat; his muscles were as hard as stone, and ordinary bullets were useless against him. Unfortunately for him, Chief Butler Lin Jian’s bullets were specially made.
Glinz felt both arms go weak as pain surged through them, while Chief Butler Lin Jian and the others had already gotten into their cars and sped off. Rage nearly burst from him. When had he ever suffered such humiliation? He had actually been set up. If he had known the man was a firearm expert, and such a terrifying one at that, he would never have given him the chance. Unlike a martial artist, if it had only been an arm wound, and not too severe, someone like the giant could force the injury out with inner power. But Glinz could not. In fury, he roared and gave chase with all his might.
The cars did not begin moving especially fast at first, but Glinz had lost time, and by the time he started after them, Chief Butler Lin Jian and the others had already opened quite a distance in their two vehicles. Watching the gap widen, Glinz dragged his bleeding arm onward without surrender, vowing to kill that pretty-faced bastard. So he had been deceived. That pretty-faced bastard was not a good person at all. Kill, kill, kill...
Michel wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with his hand, and at last he understood why, whenever his master spoke of the giant, he always used words like towering, fierce, and unmatched. His master had once said that this kind of giant qi was the most abnormal of martial arts, and no one had ever been heard of who could cultivate it to a third transformation.
And the giant was a monster among monsters. Back then, when he infiltrated the Phantom organization, he had earned the Phantom’s trust. There had been many martial arts he could have chosen to learn, but he had chosen giant qi. Though profound, even the Phantom had never believed anyone could reach the third transformation. Yet the giant had truly done it.
When Michel had seen the giant’s second transformation earlier, he had eagerly anticipated the third, because he had gone far too long without an opponent. The organization forbade internal conflict, and the enemies they met outside were usually nothing more than rubbish. But now that he stood before this giant, he realized his own hand was trembling without his consent.
It was not merely power. The aura radiating from the giant was like that of an ancient beast, causing even the soul to shudder.
Michel possessed two abilities, air and flame. His defenses were a part of his air ability, and though his hand trembled, the fury of seeing his friend killed, together with the thrill of facing the giant, overcame his fear.
In an instant, Michel had already erected more than a dozen walls of air around the giant, while air-locks bound his limbs.
The giant felt his body suddenly grow much heavier, as though something weighing several tons were dragging him down. By then, he could already see the walls of air before him, formed by the shifting currents of the atmosphere. A disdainful smile appeared on his massive face. He lifted his head and slammed straight into one of the barriers ahead.
Bang!
The air wall shattered beneath the impact. He clenched a fist larger than a common man’s head and, with one powerful thrust, shattered all the air-locks around his limbs. Bang, bang, bang. His immense body took each step with a thunderous impact, as though it were ignoring Michel’s defensive barriers entirely. Michel’s face grew even uglier. He had been injured repeatedly, yet he had never seen anyone so completely disregard his air ability.
“Ah!”
Driven by fear and rage, he raised his hands and fired several tongues of flame. Though the giant’s body had become enormous, his speed was only faster, not slower. With a single shift of his body, he had already dodged them. But the flames, like living fire dragons, continued to pursue him.
The giant evaded again and again, but under Michel’s relentless control, the fire dragons grew more numerous, larger, and faster.
Seeing the flames come for him once more, the giant did not dodge this time. Giant qi spread through his entire body, and around him one could now see a visible layer of force, revolving in and out like something substantial.
Bang, bang, bang, bang.
He met the fire dragons head-on without retreating or flinching. Michel was stunned. When the flames finally dispersed and he looked again, the giant was unharmed, the only change being that the solid layer of force around his body had vanished.
Michel was dumbfounded. Now he understood why his master had wanted him to cooperate with the King of Killers. One must never be careless. The giant was simply too powerful, impossible to defeat; even if the King of Killers came, there would be no hope at all.
Was this the true giant? Suddenly Michel felt like crying. For all these years, what he had wanted most was to measure himself against the giant and become the strongest man under his master. Yet only now did he realize how insignificant his own power was.
Chief Butler Lin Jian’s two cars came racing up. Xiao Tianci turned and saw Lin Jian leap from the vehicle, his face taut with tension. Chief Butler Lin Jian had not expected the boss to still be here, but when he saw the giant after the third transformation, everything became clear.
This was also the first time he had ever seen the giant’s third transformation, and shock was the only word for it. Seeing Chief Butler Lin Jian approach, Xiao Tianci asked with concern, “Chief Butler, how are you?”
The chief butler hurriedly replied, “Please rest assured, Boss. The men behind are all ordinary people. Only two were injured, but—”
Before he could finish, someone shouted curses from afar: “Pretty face, get over here! I’m going to kill you! I’m going to tear you apart! How dare you hurt me, you pretty-faced bastard...”
Xiao Tianci looked toward Chief Butler Lin Jian. Lin Jian no longer had time to explain. Smiling awkwardly, he immediately ordered, “Form the gun array.”
The guards swiftly formed a gun formation around the chief butler and Xiao Tianci.
To a single man, the giant was now simply too tall; one could not even make out the expression on his face. Michel stood there in despair. He still had attack power, but despair had already taken hold of his heart. He had given up.
As for Stans beside him, the giant’s pressure had pinned him in place, leaving him with no courage to strike at all. They were ability users, and in the past it had always been them killing others. They had never experienced such a situation before. So when they were arrogant, they were even more formidable; but once faced with this kind of scene, they collapsed entirely.
The giant raised his foot and kicked toward Michel, who stood motionless. If that blow landed, Michel would surely be torn into pieces. Just as the foot was about to strike, a figure as swift as lightning surged over and swept Michel away.
