Chapter 31: The Immortal Jade Sacred Physique

Zhi Ke seemed to possess eyes capable of seeing through everything. Among the several thousand people entering the Origin Vein, he singled out every Spirit Origin Realm cultivator hidden within the crowd.
Dressed entirely in white, Bai Ling stood at the rear beside Bai Zhentian, his brows tightly furrowed as he asked, “Where is Yueyue?”
“She may have gotten angry,” Bai Zhentian replied. “When you mentioned it ten days ago, she was standing just outside the door. After disappearing for three years, that girl came back and has been inseparable from you every day.”
Bai Ling kept scanning the crowd, but he could not find Xuan Ningyue anywhere. At that moment, an inexplicable emptiness filled his heart.
Once one became a cultivator, one could sense the level of another person’s origin power.
Yueyue had disappeared for three years, only to bring him an incomparably precious fourth-grade Primal Chaos Pill. A few days ago, he had sensed that Xuan Ningyue’s cultivation was roughly at the eighth level of the Initial Origin Realm. He could never have imagined how someone with cultivation that low had managed to find such a pill for him.
And he had passed her heartfelt gift directly to Bai Zhentian.
If he were in her place, he would have been terribly hurt as well.
What had she gone through during those three years? The little girl who had once worn a smile every day had returned after three years apart. Toward him alone, she was still exactly as she had been before, always greeting him with a radiant smile.
But toward everyone else, Xuan Ningyue’s gaze was cold as frost. Apart from the way she treated Bai Ling, her personality had changed completely.
Although Xuan Ningyue tried desperately to conceal it before everyone and keep Bai Ling from noticing, how could he possibly fail to see it?
“Yueyue, what exactly happened to you…”
“I have awakened. If you encounter any difficulties, could you tell me as you did when we were children? I’ll face them with you…”
Bai Ling looked back every few steps, hoping that the white-clad figure would appear. Not until the crowd had dwindled to barely a hundred people did he let out a quiet sigh and follow them toward the cave entrance.
As he passed Ji Kun, Ji Kun smiled and nodded at him, saying four words: “Ling’er, be careful.”
Bai Ling raised his head to look at Ji Kun, warmth spreading through his heart. Toward this former father-in-law, he harbored emotions too complicated to express. Like Bai Zhentian, Ji Kun had treated him exceptionally well since childhood.
Those four simple words contained Ji Kun’s concern for him.
Bai Ling understood that Ji Kun had been forced into the annulment back then. The demand had come fiercely from Ji Jiu’er and her mother; Ji Kun himself had had nothing to do with it.
Moreover, Bai Ling had challenged his daughter and defeated Ji Jiu’er. Yet Ji Kun had not allowed the matter to breed resentment toward him.
A smile appeared on Bai Ling’s face as he replied, “Take care, Uncle Kun.”
His mind suddenly returned to ten years earlier, when he had encountered Ji Kun by chance while accompanying Bai Zhentian. At the time, Ji Kun had been a cultivator at the tenth level of the Initial Origin Realm, a level at which he had remained stuck for twenty years. That night, drunk, he had said that his greatest dream in life was to become the lord of a city one day.

And now Ji Kun had realized the dream he once spoke of. Under his governance over the past three years, Flowing Moon City had become like a ray of light ignited amid a time of chaos, illuminating the darkness.
“Go. Your Third Uncle and I will await your triumphant return,” Ji Kun said.
Bai Ling bowed lightly, then turned and entered the Origin Vein cave.
Ji Kun watched Bai Ling’s disappearing back. His eyes suddenly widened, and he stood rooted to the spot. A moment later, he walked excitedly to Bai Zhentian’s side and asked in bewilderment, “Ling… Ling’er has reached the third level of the Initial Origin Realm?”
Bai Zhentian nodded with a smile.
“Comparing people really is infuriating! How long has it been? Ling’er is practically a monster newly born into the world. This is far too monstrous!” Ji Kun exclaimed in disbelief.
Yet he had carefully examined Bai Ling’s cultivation three times just moments earlier. It truly was the third level of the Initial Origin Realm. For an instant, he felt dazed and wondered whether something had gone wrong with his perception.
“Your daughter is a monster as well. It’s simply that no one has discovered it yet,” Bai Zhentian said with a soft laugh.
Confusion showed on Ji Kun’s face. “What do you mean?”
Bai Zhentian shook his head with a smile. “Have you never wondered why the Sacred Origin Immortal Palace, which has inherited its legacy for thousands of years and remained hidden from the world for a century, would allow an ordinary person to join its sect merely because she was recommended by the emperor of a subordinate empire?”
Ji Kun’s thoughts became tangled. “Are you saying that Jiu’er was chosen by the Sacred Origin Immortal Palace, and that His Majesty’s recommendation was only a very minor reason?”
Bai Zhentian gazed toward the cave entrance where Bai Ling had vanished and said in a low voice, “That’s right. Your daughter possesses the Immortal Jade Sacred Body, something that has not appeared in the world for thousands of years. It was only recently discovered, and the Immortal Jade Sacred Body within her has yet to awaken completely.”
Ji Kun was even more shocked. His eyes widened as Bai Zhentian’s words seemed almost dreamlike. He had never even heard of the Immortal Jade Sacred Body.
Looking at Ji Kun standing there dumbfounded, Bai Zhentian’s smile deepened. “The Sacred Origin Immortal Palace has remained hidden for a hundred years. This time, it actually allowed your daughter to fight Bai Ling in broad daylight. Do you still not understand why?”
With that, he turned and left.
Ji Kun’s mouth hung slightly open. He shook his head sharply, struggling to digest the earth-shattering secret Bai Zhentian had revealed.
…
A cave entrance two meters high wound deep into the mountains. It was impossible to see its end. As the light gradually faded, the path ahead became uneven and treacherous; the unwary could easily stumble over the stones.
The air was saturated with dense origin power. Merely drawing in a deep breath made one feel as though the origin power within one’s Origin Gate had increased substantially.
Cultivating inside this Origin Vein would be equivalent to cultivating for three times as long outside.
That was the terrifying aspect of an Origin Vein.
Flowing Moon City ranked at the bottom of the Falling Profound Empire. With this Origin Vein, large numbers of Spirit Origin Realm cultivators would certainly be born within the city once more. Given enough time, several Earth Origin Realm experts might even emerge, and the city’s position within the empire would rise considerably.

Within the Origin Vein were origin beasts formed from origin power. Defeat one, and it would yield an origin crystal.
Within a low-grade Origin Vein, the strongest beasts were only at the Spirit Origin Realm.
Bai Ling was among the last group to enter. At that moment, a young man behind him exclaimed, “Are you Bai Ling, big brother? The Bai Ling who defeated Ji Jiu’er several days ago?”
Bai Ling slowly turned to look at him. The boy was slender and handsome, appeared to be about eight years old, and was at the first level of the Initial Origin Realm. He was staring at Bai Ling with a look of delighted surprise.
Bai Ling nodded. Ever since he had soundly defeated Ji Jiu’er before the City Lord’s Residence more than ten days ago, his reputation had spread through every street and alley of Flowing Moon City. He was not surprised that people recognized him the moment he entered.
“It really is Big Brother Bai Ling!”
“Greetings, Big Brother!”
“I knew it! Big Brother Ling would definitely come!”
…
In an instant, more than a dozen voices rang out from before and behind Bai Ling. Several people ahead even spun around and suddenly surrounded him, blocking his path.
Bai Ling found himself somewhat exasperated. Nearly all the people around him were cultivators who had only recently awakened to the Initial Origin Realm, and they were much younger than he was. The boy who had spoken first was only eight years old!
Bai Ling had not awakened until he was eighteen. In the eyes of these people, he truly was an older brother.
Looking at the dim passage ahead and realizing that he was trapped at the entrance, Bai Ling grew anxious.
I came here to explore and seek treasures, not to hold a greeting assembly!
He hurriedly shook his head and said with a smile, “Brothers, if we waste even a moment here, someone else may seize all these peerless resources!”
“Huh? Big Brother Ling, has your cultivation advanced?” a young man five meters ahead of him asked in shock.
“Ahhh… Big Brother Ling, you really are a monster! How long has it been? Tsk… You’re incredible! The third level of the Initial Origin Realm!” The eight-year-old boy behind Bai Ling stared wide-eyed and cried out in astonishment.
“Big Brother Ling, would you travel with us? Everyone has already witnessed your strength. How about we divide the origin crystals seven to three, with you taking seven and us taking three?”
…
Bai Ling: “…”
