Lu Jin walked toward the elevator with a dark expression, Lu Wan following closely behind. Watching his tall, slender figure, she felt puzzled; even if the servant had been careless, it wasn’t enough reason to be so angry.

As the elevator doors opened, they saw Su Ran standing in the middle of the living room, drenched from head to toe, his nose red from the cold. He was turning around, looking apologetically at the wet footprints on the floor. “Sorry, I’ve made the floor wet,” he said to the butler.

At that moment, Lu Jin thought Lu Wan was right—this man was indeed a fool, foolish enough to make one angry.

Butler Zhang, a kindly middle-aged man, comforted Su Ran, “It’s alright, don’t worry. The young master and the young lady have come down.”

Su Ran looked over just as Lu Jin and Lu Wan were walking toward him, their presence overwhelming, making him appear even more disheveled. He tightened his fingers and greeted them, “Mr. Lu, Miss Lu.”

Lu Wan was very warm and took the lead, “Just call me Wanwan.” She took the pastry from his hand. “Oh my, you really are thoughtful. It’s such heavy rain, yet you came as promised. You’re soaked.”

Su Ran felt a bit embarrassed at her words; after all, he had come with a purpose. “It suddenly rained on the way. I didn’t expect it either.”

“Have some ginger tea later to warm you up,” Lu Wan said, reaching out to touch Su Ran’s wet hair. She genuinely found the young man quite endearing.

At that moment, Lu Jin, who had been silent, suddenly spoke. “Come upstairs with me. I’ll help you change.”

Su Ran glanced at him, initially intending to decline, but seeing Lu Jin’s icy expression, he nodded in agreement. “Alright, thank you.”

The villa had four floors. The first floor had a high ceiling and was decorated in an antique, luxurious style, making Su Ran feel solemn and unable to relax. He unconsciously tensed.

Lu Jin’s attitude was far from gentle. Following behind, Su Ran could only see his cold, distant back, making him wonder if Lu Jin welcomed his presence at all.

When they stepped into the elevator, Lu Wan tried to follow them but was stopped by Lu Jin. “Sister, you stay downstairs and have some pastries. It’s best to brew a pot of hot tea.”

Lu Wan was confused but could only watch the elevator doors close.

Lu Jin’s sense of smell was extremely sensitive; he could detect subtle differences in scent that others could not. In this confined space, the fragrance on Su Ran mixed with the smell of rain, clinging to every corner with the damp air.

His gaze swept from Su Ran’s wet hair tips down to his feet. His clothes clung wetly to his thin frame, making him appear even more delicate. His fragile neck, soaked by rain, was so pale it seemed to shimmer faintly.

Su Ran slightly lowered his head, feeling the chilly atmosphere. He glanced sideways at Lu Jin and noticed his slight frown. Being perceptive, he sensed Lu Jin’s expression was one of disdain.

Su Ran looked down at himself. His clothes were so drenched they looked like they had just been taken out of water. His jacket was even dripping, droplets falling one by one along the zipper, forming a small puddle on the elevator floor.

He quickly took off his jacket and held it in his hands, but then he heard a sharp inhalation. Instinctively, he glanced to the side and saw Lu Jin’s frown deepen.

Lu Jin stared in surprise at Su Ran. Underneath the jacket was a white T-shirt, now soaked and clinging semi-transparently to his body, outlining his lean figure clearly—the rounded shoulders, the slender waist…

Why had he suddenly taken off his jacket?

Lu Jin felt his breath disturbed. Just then, the elevator doors opened. Lu Jin strode out first, feeling his head heat up as if running a fever, making it impossible to remain calm.

Behind him, Su Ran finally confirmed that Lu Jin did not welcome his arrival. Lu Jin must have guessed the real purpose of his visit. Indeed, such a clever man, at the center of fame and fortune, would be well aware of the schemes people like them used to ingratiate themselves.

“Um… Mr. Lu.”

Lu Jin stopped and turned around, disliking this overheated feeling in his head, but his expression remained perfectly calm. “Yes?”

Seeing Lu Jin turn, Su Ran was startled. His expression was somewhat frightening, his eyes reddened, coldly staring like a predator intent on tearing him apart.

Had he really disturbed him too much today?

Lu Jin stood in front of Su Ran, staring straight into his eyes. His upbringing prevented him from looking away downward.

That semi-transparent shirt revealed every inch of him clearly yet hazily, exuding an exquisite beauty and allure.

“I should leave now…” Su Ran bit his lip, his lips reddened from the cold and his own biting. He decided to abandon all caution; if Lu Jin truly disliked him, persisting here would only be counterproductive.

Lu Jin was bewildered and involuntarily softened his voice. “Why?”

“Well… I created a new pastry and wanted to invite you and Miss Lu Wan to try it at my place. Would you come?” Su Ran looked up at Lu Jin.

Lu Jin’s breath caught sharply. He almost thought this was a calculated ploy by Su Ran. That soaked, innocent look, the act of removing his clothes, making himself like this…

Sure enough, he had finally exposed his true intention.

Unfortunately, Lu Jin had already anticipated it and saw through him.

* * *

On the day Lu Jin was invited to dinner, Su Ran had spent nearly the entire afternoon in the kitchen. Jiang Yi had also stayed home, with Su Ran handling the pastries and Jiang Yi the savory dishes.

He hadn’t been given much time to develop the new recipe, spending the past two days almost neglecting eating and drinking by the oven. Since the new dessert was the reason for the invitation, it had to be perfect.

While the two were busy in the kitchen, the doorbell suddenly rang. Su Ran and Jiang Yi exchanged glances. Jiang Yi raised his arm to check his watch, “He’s actually early by half an hour.”

For someone as punctual as Lu Jin, who measured time by the minute, this was unusual.

“Could it be him?” Su Ran asked, surprised. He went to open the door, and sure enough, it was Lu Jin.

The warm scent of baking and cooked food wafted out, the heat pressing against their faces. Lu Jin looked at Su Ran, who was dressed casually at home, and said, “I happened to be nearby on business. Came straight after finishing up.”

“Oh, come in.” Su Ran bent to get slippers for him. “Why didn’t Miss Lu Wan come?”

“She has something else to attend to,” Lu Jin replied coldly.

This was the second time Lu Jin had entered this house. Jiang Yi came forward, not even putting down his spatula. “Welcome, welcome. Finally here. This time I’ll let you taste my cooking.”

Lu Jin glanced at him with disdain, then turned away, disgusted by the harmonious scene between the two men.

If it weren’t for the pity he felt when Su Ran showed up soaking wet delivering pastries at his place, he wouldn’t have come at all.
