Chapter 26: The Third Young Miss Must Have Missed Me
"I only found out not long ago." Guan Yueyue lowered her head, gazing at her freshly trimmed toenails. They were bright, rounded, and aesthetically pleasing, though she had been called downstairs before she could apply any polish.
Ming Ziluo asked with a smile, "Does Ziyu know you're pregnant?"
Guan Yueyue shook her head. If he found out, she would be finished.
Ming Ziluo walked over and stroked Guan Yueyue's cheek. "Yueyue, your face is truly endearing. If Ziyu knew you were carrying his child, he would probably be overjoyed."
Beneath long, curled lashes, Guan Yueyue’s clear, dark-and-white eyes stared innocently at Ming Ziluo. "Sister Luo, I'm not ready to be a mother yet. Could you please not tell Xu Ziyu about this for now? I don't want them to know yet."
"Silly girl," Ming Ziluo scolded her gently. "Why would you want to hide such a wonderful thing? You should tell Ziyu as soon as possible. Let him be happy, and he can propose to your family. Wouldn't it be lovely if you two got married soon?"
What should she do?
How could she convince Ming Ziluo? Seeing that Ming Ziluo was about to leave, Guan Yueyue grew anxious and grabbed her arm. "Sister Luo, the thing is... I’m not sure if I’m going to keep this child. Please don't tell Xu Ziyu, so he won't get his hopes up for nothing."
"Why wouldn't you want it?" Ming Ziluo wanted one, but couldn't have one; Shen Zhi wouldn't even touch her.
"I beg you, Sister Luo." Guan Yueyue threw caution to the wind, pleading with her pitifully.
Ming Ziluo smiled helplessly. "Alright. But Ziyu will find out sooner or later. We'll see how you explain it to him then. I give up on you."
After Ming Ziluo left, Guan Yueyue let out a sigh of relief. Why did she feel as if she had done something shameful?
Guan Yueyue kicked off her slippers, lay on the sofa, and dialed Shen Zhi’s number. "What are you doing?"
"Taking on a few orders," Shen Zhi replied.
Guan Yueyue twirled a strand of hair around her finger. "What about dinner?"
Shen Zhi chuckled softly. "Why? Are you going to cook for me?"
"If you want to eat, I’ll cook. Do you want some?"
"No. I'm a bit busy tonight. Another day, I’ll cook for you." After saying this, Shen Zhi laughed again. "Is the Third Miss missing me?"
"Get lost." Guan Yueyue didn't waste any more words and hung up the phone directly.
Shen Zhi put his phone away, the smile on his face not fading in the slightest, until Ming Ziluo stood outside the door and knocked. "A-Zhi."
Hearing her voice, the smile on Shen Zhi’s face vanished instantly. "Is something the matter?"
Ming Ziluo stepped inside on her long legs. "A-Zhi, I bought some groceries, and tonight I..."
"I'm very busy tonight," Shen Zhi said without looking up.
Seeing the way Shen Zhi was treating her, Ming Ziluo’s eyes turned red instantly. "A-Zhi, don't treat me like this. About what happened with Shang Meixiang..."
Shen Zhi suddenly looked up at her, the chill in his eyes enough to freeze a person solid. "You are disturbing me. Please leave, Miss Ming."
It was the first time Ming Ziluo had been treated this way by Shen Zhi, and for a moment, she thought she was dreaming. Shen Zhi had always been tolerant and gentle with her; when had he ever treated her like this? "A-Zhi, you’ve changed, you’ve truly changed. Is there another woman in your heart?"
Seeing Shen Zhi remain silent, Ming Ziluo’s expression twisted. "I’ve fought for five years for your sake, yet you’ve fallen for another woman. Shen Zhi, what do you expect me to do?! What am I supposed to do?!"
It was the first time Shen Zhi had seen Ming Ziluo lose her composure, screaming and acting like a madwoman in front of him, and he was momentarily stunned.
"A-Zhi, forgive me just this once, will you?" Ming Ziluo’s eyes were filled with pain as she grabbed his arm. "I beg you, just this once. I promise you, I won't do those things that go against my conscience anymore. I'll listen to you from now on, okay?"
Shen Zhi removed her hand. "Go back. I really do have things to attend to tonight."
"A-Zhi."
"Get out."
