Chapter 27: Stop Fooling Around
Guan Yueyue sat on the sofa in the living room, habitually stroking her belly.
"Yueyue."
Ming Ziluo’s voice drifted in from outside. Guan Yueyue was startled; why was she here again?
Wearing a purple trench coat, Ming Ziluo swept into the room like a gust of wind.
Guan Yueyue hurried to her feet. "Sister Luo," she greeted.
"Do you have any wine?" Ming Ziluo asked.
Guan Yueyue nodded. "Yes."
"Go get it for me." It was clear that Ming Ziluo was in a foul mood.
Guan Yueyue opened the liquor cabinet, took out a bottle of red wine, and grabbed a glass.
"What’s happened, Sister Luo?" she asked while pouring the wine.
Hatred burned in Ming Ziluo’s eyes. "A-Zhi has fallen for another woman."
Guan Yueyue’s hand faltered for a moment before she continued pouring.
"Here you go, Sister Luo."
Ming Ziluo took the glass and drained it in one gulp. "If I find out who that woman is, I will tear her to pieces!"
"Would you like more, Sister Luo?" Guan Yueyue asked.
Ming Ziluo handed her the empty glass. They continued this rhythm—Guan Yueyue poured, and Ming Ziluo drank, until she began to show signs of intoxication.
"Yueyue, it’s useless. Even if Shen Zhi loves someone else, even if he marries someone else, I can still snatch him back. He is mine for this lifetime—mine in life, and mine in death. If he dares to marry someone else, I will kill every woman he tries to wed!" Ming Ziluo gripped the glass so hard it seemed she might crush it.
Guan Yueyue watched her calmly, wondering how Ming Ziluo’s personality remained exactly as it had been in her previous life, unchanged.
"Sister Luo, would you like to go rest?" Guan Yueyue suggested.
Clearly drunk, Ming Ziluo stumbled to the bathroom to vomit. When she returned, she said, "Yueyue, take me to rest."
"All right." Guan Yueyue went over to support her.
Ming Ziluo slept until dusk, waking only when she caught the scent of dinner.
Seeing her stir, Guan Yueyue said, "Sister Luo, get up for dinner."
Ming Ziluo hurriedly checked her phone, only to find it had shut down. Upon powering it on, she saw a dozen missed calls and a flood of notifications on WeChat.
"Yueyue, sorry to bother you, but I have things to attend to, so I can't stay for dinner," Ming Ziluo said, rising and pressing a hand to her throbbing head. "I’ll take you out another time."
"That’s fine, Sister Luo," Guan Yueyue replied obediently.
***
That night, Guan Yueyue lay in bed, unable to sleep as Ming Ziluo’s words from earlier played over in her mind.
She sat up, grabbed her phone, and called Shen Zhi. "Are you still busy?"
Shen Zhi held his phone, having just stepped out of the shower, water still dripping from the tips of his hair. He was just about to answer when Ming Ziluo suddenly burst in and wrapped her arms around his waist. "A-Zhi."
Shen Zhi quickly ended the call.
Guan Yueyue felt as though she had heard Ming Ziluo’s voice. She tried calling back, but the phone was powered off.
Unable to rest, she rushed to the Xu residence that night.
Xu Ziyu met her at the door. "Why are you here so late? Did you come to sleep with me?"
"Don't be ridiculous," Guan Yueyue said. "I’m looking for Ming Ziluo. Is she here?"
Xu Ziyu looked at her with a grin. "What do you want with her?"
"She left her watch at my place. I came to return it," Guan Yueyue explained.
Xu Ziyu pointed upstairs. "She should be in my brother’s room."
Anxious, Guan Yueyue hurried up the stairs. Xu Ziyu watched her go, his expression thoughtful.
Guan Yueyue went straight to Shen Zhi’s bedroom. She found Ming Ziluo lying unconscious on the bed, while Shen Zhi stood to the side, fully dressed but with a dark, gloomy expression on his face.
Guan Yueyue walked over. "What happened to her?"
"She took drugs," Shen Zhi replied. "That kind of drug."
"Then you and her..." Guan Yueyue looked up at him.
Shen Zhi reached out as if to touch her, but upon seeing Xu Ziyu standing in the doorway, he pulled his hand back. "Nothing happened."
Xu Ziyu remained by the door, watching them both in silence.
