Volume 1, Chapter 4: Only the Wages Earned While Slacking Off Are Truly Yours!
Page 1/3
Xia Yang chose not to go home first to feed Yatina the magic pill before heading to work. After all, he had replenished some magic power just now; one day wouldn’t be enough time to starve to death. On the contrary, if Xia Yang didn’t go to the company now, he would truly be finished!
He pushed down hard on the pedals; the bicycle chain vibrated violently, and with a burst of dust, both man and bike vanished in an instant.
Along the way, Xia Yang’s eyes kept scanning the diverse pedestrians around him. Surprisingly, within just a dozen minutes, he had already spotted two people surrounded by black magical energy!
However, these three were very different from Yi Hong. The latter was enveloped in black aura all over his body, while the former only had wisps of black energy swirling around their heads.
Though Xia Yang didn’t fully understand the situation, he guessed that this surrounding magic would likely increase slowly over time. Once it reached a certain concentration, it would probably trigger the awakening of a contract monster.
But this didn’t concern Xia Yang too much. Compared to that, what surprised him more was that the usual twenty-minute bike ride to the company had now taken only about a dozen minutes!
“Beep! Clock-in successful!”
Standing before the time clock, Xia Yang stared blankly at the time displayed on the machine.
“8:01!”
“So it’s true! The human body does have its limits after all…”
He sighed and entered the company. Fortunately, he had been mentally prepared, so it wasn’t too upsetting.
Arriving at his familiar workspace, he turned on his computer, took out some snacks, and prepared to slack off.
“Rare sight, Yang, you’re actually late for once?” Just as he sat down, a somewhat surprised voice came from beside him.
Xia Yang turned to look and saw a man with a striking red American-style spiked haircut gazing at him with curiosity.
This man was Song Jie, Xia Yang’s colleague. Since they joined the company around the same time, they had naturally become friends.
“Yeah, overslept,” Xia Yang casually made up an excuse to brush it off. This kind of thing wasn’t something he could just blurt out.
He habitually scanned Song Jie, noticed no black aura surrounding him, then refocused on the computer.
The salary earned during work hours was his mental damage compensation; only the pay gained during slacking hours was real profit!
The manager usually arrived around eight-thirty, so Xia Yang planned to make up the lost fifty yuan during this time.
“Eternal Oblivion! Activate!”
Seeing this, Song Jie hurriedly warned, “Yang, better not slack off today! Rumor has it that our elusive executive director is coming to inspect the company!”
“Where did your rumor come from?”

“Of course from other colleagues!” Song Jie explained.
Xia Yang cast a sidelong glance at him and said, “Last month, you told me the rumor that our general manager was pregnant. And? What kind of pregnancy did our male general manager have?”
“Uh… he was pregnant with a David Dai…” Song Jie was embarrassed.
“Two months ago, you told me that a recently resigned colleague won four hundred thousand yuan in the lottery. I got all fired up and rushed downstairs to buy four hundred yuan worth of scratch cards. In anger, I only won forty yuan. And what happened?”
“Uh… on his way to buy the lottery ticket, he got hit by a car and lost four hundred thousand yuan…” Song Jie scratched his head awkwardly.
“Heh,” Xia Yang snorted coldly.
“Really! Believe me! This time it’s true!” Song Jie continued to defend himself.
“Don’t worry, I can tell by sound and direction. I’ll listen out for the chairman’s footsteps. When the time comes, I’ll work seriously,” Xia Yang waved his hand and invited, “Wanna duo queue? I’m about to hit the Asura rank.”
“Sounds good!”
In the end, Song Jie was swayed and they began slacking off together.
Meanwhile, at the company entrance, a pure black Maybach slowly pulled up.
Once the car stopped, the front passenger door opened first, and a middle-aged man with a square face, dressed in a suit, stepped out.
Su Guodong had barely gotten out when a shorter, balding, stout man immediately approached.
“Chairman Su! We’ve finally been waiting for you!” Liu Huaide greeted warmly, stretching out his hands to shake Su Guodong’s.
But Su Guodong had no intention of shaking hands. Instead, he walked to the rear of the car and opened the back door.
Liu Huaide awkwardly withdrew his hands, but his smile remained unfazed.
The door opened, and a fair, jade-like slender leg first stepped out, followed by a strikingly beautiful woman dressed in a tailored white professional suit.
Her black stiletto heels clicked twice on the floor. She smoothed out the slight wrinkles on her clothes and adjusted the delicate brooch on her chest.
Liu Huaide was momentarily stunned; swallowing nervously, he looked toward Su Guodong and asked in confusion, “Chairman Su, this is…”
“This is my niece, also surnamed Su. She will take over management of the company in the future,” Su Guodong explained. Then he turned to his niece and said, “Yixue, this is General Manager Liu.”
“Understood,” Su Yixue replied coldly, nodding at Liu Huaide before bypassing him and walking into the company.
Su Guodong rubbed his temples and sighed softly from behind. He called out to Liu Huaide, and the two quickly caught up with Su Yixue.
“Uh, Chairman Su, should we gather all the employees to introduce them?” Liu Huaide quietly suggested.
Before Su Guodong could reply, a cold voice came from ahead.
“No need.”

Su Guodong gave a look, signaling to follow his niece’s decision.
Liu Huaide nodded, thinking with Su Guodong’s attitude, the company was probably in for a new boss.
As Su Yixue walked, her gaze swept over the employees coming and going in the corridor, scrutinizing them as if searching for something.
Finally, she stopped before a large transparent glass wall. On the other side lay the office area.
The employees who had been chatting and slacking off immediately fell silent upon noticing the general manager and chairman in the corridor. They hurried back to their desks, instantly pretending to be busy.
Su Yixue’s eyes continued scanning each employee.
Suddenly, her gaze fixed on one person. Her jet-black, shining eyes stared intently, growing deeper and seemingly able to pierce through all worldly secrets.
“What’s wrong, Yixue?” Su Guodong asked in puzzlement.
Su Yixue didn’t answer but strode straight toward the glass door of the office.
Though confused, the two followed.
“Clack—clack—clack—”
The crisp sound of high heels on the floor echoed—a death knell to every employee present.
No wonder. Su Yixue’s already formidable cold aura, combined with the presence of the chairman and general manager behind her, was terrifying beyond words.
Finally, Su Yixue stopped behind one employee.
At that moment, Xia Yang, immersed in the noisy environment and his colleagues’ chatter, had unknowingly put on his headphones, fully absorbed in the game world, almost completely oblivious to his surroundings.
Suddenly, a faint fragrance wafted into his nostrils, passing through his chest into his lungs.
At first, he thought a colleague had sprayed perfume and paid little attention—it smelled nice, he liked it.
Then, as the hero controlled by Song Jie suddenly went idle in the game, Xia Yang sensed something amiss.
“Song Jie, why are you AFK? You still want the Golden Fist Blade or not?” Xia Yang took off his headphones.
For some reason, he felt a chill behind him.
Turning his head toward Song Jie, he saw the latter looking terrified, staring straight behind Xia Yang as if seeing a ghost.
Xia Yang froze, then glanced over his shoulder.
Just one look made his pupils constrict sharply, cold sweat breaking out all over him!
