Chapter One Hundred and Nine: Opportunity
On her first day back home, Lu Yalan did not want to quarrel with Lu Yahe, but she knew very well that this spoiled little tyrant was used to getting her way. If she ignored her now, Lu Yahe would only become more troublesome later.
The footsteps behind her grew closer and closer. Lu Yalan merely paused for a moment before turning around with a bright smile. “Did you need something from me?”
In truth, Lu Yahe herself did not know why she had called out to Lu Yalan.
When she learned that Lu Yalan would be returning today, Second Aunt had warned her in advance not to stir up trouble. Lu Yahe, feeling vexed, had taken out her anger on the flowers and plants.
She had seen a figure that looked very much like Lu Yalan, yet the feeling it gave was entirely different. Hesitating, she watched the figure walk farther and farther away, and before she knew it, she had called out.
Now that the person stood before her, she looked like unpolished jade.
“So what now? Are you going to call the police?” Qiao Anming did not first concern himself with Du Ruo in his arms. Instead, he shielded her with his arm and said this to the several drunk men before him. His voice was not loud, but it carried a steady force.
Looking at the single short line on the sheet of paper, Mo Jingyuan’s lips curved into a cruel smile. It seemed Bai Pianran was still far from obedient. If that was the case, then he could not be blamed for being ruthless and forgetting old ties.
“My bag is right here. If it really is as you say, take it and settle the bill yourself.” With that, I picked up the bag from behind the chair and threw it to her, then sat down and continued eating without the slightest change in expression.
After hearing Leng Dianchen’s words, An Ruoran could not say anything else. This was the first time Leng Dianchen had admitted in front of her that he was truly jealous.
The furnace’s temperature was terrifying. It took only a moment of heating before he opened the lid and took out the herbs. They were the same herbs Ling Tianzhan had used to refine his elixir.
Watching her slight figure bent over as she stroked the purple forget-me-nots, and hearing that faintly helpless tone, Leng Mingxu felt as though something had suddenly tugged at his heart without warning.
Zhang Yuan glanced at the time and was astonished to find that only a single second had passed. His teammates had noticed nothing unusual.
Du Ruo had been at it all night. By the time the sky was just beginning to lighten, she finally forced herself to collapse into the chair and fall asleep. Qiao Anming, however, was wide awake. Turning to look at Du Ruo in her sleep, he saw her brows faintly knit, the tip of her nose slightly upturned, her hair, still dried after being soaked, lying in a rough mess across her forehead.
From their clothes, and from the price of this ward, he could tell they were not people he could afford to offend. Without waiting for them to speak, the doctor silently withdrew.
Seeing the relieved smile on An Ruoran’s face, Mu Ximo felt that bringing her to this place had been the rightest choice of all.
Perhaps because Ayao looked too calm, the doctor kept sneaking glances at him while disinfecting and bandaging the wound.
Just as Gu Siji had taken the clothes, a figure suddenly entered the shop as well and, in the same motion, reached out and took the clothes from her hands.
The ghastly tale suddenly unnerved Feng Sui. He dared not imagine what he had been exchanged for in each and every one of his ascensions over the tens of thousands of years.
Going out to see the lanterns? She had hidden from him for more than a month and refused to see him, yet she had the leisure to go out and admire lanterns? If it was not with Lu Jue, then who was she with? Could it be the crown prince?
Mu Qiqi was already an adult. Staying at home for a few days would not be a problem. Besides, Old Lin Shengxiao was there as well.
At those words, Jiang Yu’s brow twitched hard, yet he could not help watching as the two of them pushed open the door and went inside.
That was true enough. After all, Jing Tong had a father serving a life sentence in prison, while Jiang Yu was the future president. There was no way the two could be linked together; perhaps there was only some lingering thread of old affection between them.
Su Lanqing clenched her fists, the veins on the back of her hands standing out. Her face was as pale as paper as she stared fixedly at Qing Yu, at her eyes, wanting to find even the slightest ripple there.
The man beside her looked at her with pity, let out a sigh, and gently patted her shoulder to comfort her.
Chu Lange was somewhat speechless. She washed the rice, put it into the pot, added some clean water, and cooked it straight into plain porridge. It was nothing like the delicious congee made by real chefs.
Han Xin nodded. Looking up and seeing several geese crossing the sky, inspiration struck. With a casual motion, he drew a feathered arrow and nocked it to his bow.
