Chapter 156: The Hanging Heart Finally Dropped Dead

This crying scene had very few lines. That was one of the reasons Xi Dong asked Chen Fang to perform this part. After all, in just ten minutes, Chen Fang couldn’t memorize too many lines. It was best to choose a scene with minimal dialogue for him to act out. Crying scenes rely on emotion. Therefore, when Chen Fang and Su Murou changed into their period costumes in the studio, their performance was largely conveyed through the language of the camera. As long as Chen Fang and Su Murou’s sorrowful emotions were convincing, the shoot would be considered successful.
Su Murou’s acting was excellent. Playing the female lead on the brink of death, she not only conveyed the grief and reluctance of parting from life but also portrayed the frailty of someone near death. This was pure acting skill, honed through countless roles. In comparison, Chen Fang was not far behind. His emotions were also spot on. In fact, he even revised some of the lines in the scene to better suit the context.
Their acting soared. Although dressed in modern clothes and performing in a hotel room rather than a professional studio, everyone present felt as if they were watching a gripping cinematic masterpiece. Su Murou’s talent was well known, but the shock came from Chen Fang’s ability to hold his own alongside her. That was the most astonishing part!
Moments later, Xi Dong shouted loudly, “Cut!” Instantly, Chen Fang felt the heavy, suffocating emotions vanish without a trace, and the redness and tears in his eyes retreated completely.
“How amazing!” he thought to himself. “This is just a beginner-level acting card. If there were intermediate or advanced ones, wouldn’t that be out of this world?” He considered the possibility of just buying one directly from the system.
Unexpectedly, the system’s cold voice responded: “Prop cards cannot be purchased. You can buy songs, scripts, novels, comics, and so on from me with money, but prop cards are special items and are not available for direct purchase.”
Hearing this, Chen Fang felt disappointed. In other words, if he wanted to improve his acting skills, relying on the system in the short term was unrealistic. However, a beginner-level acting card would suffice for now. Chen Fang’s control over his emotions and expressions was incredibly strong, which surprised everyone.

Many actors become overly immersed in their roles and often remain influenced by their characters even after the performance ends. But Chen Fang showed no such traces. He could switch on and off at will—truly terrifying! This was pure talent overwhelmingly surpassing everything.
Xi Dong clapped his hands joyfully. “Chen, you really gave me a huge surprise.” Chen Fang patted Su Murou’s back, signaling she could get up. Su Murou wore a light short-sleeved top, exposing a large patch of pale skin on her back. The warmth from Chen Fang’s palm made her reluctant to leave his embrace.
In the next moment, Su Murou scolded herself silently: Su Murou, shameless! Even eyeing your good friend’s man! Suppressing the chaotic thoughts swirling in her mind, she finally rose from Chen Fang’s arms.
“Director Xi, was my performance acceptable?” Chen Fang asked with a smile.
On set, it was customary to address people by their titles. In front of so many crew members, Chen Fang didn’t call Xi Dong “Uncle Xi” but used the more formal “Director Xi.” Xi Dong understood Chen Fang’s intent; privately, they could call each other whatever they wished, but in front of the crew, appearing too close might spark unfavorable rumors.
“Excellent!” Xi Dong patted Chen Fang’s shoulder. At that moment, he was immensely grateful for insisting on changing the lead actors. Had they not switched the leads, he might never have discovered Chen Fang’s extraordinary talent in acting.
“What do you all think?” Xi Dong asked the others.
“Chen Fang’s acting is very good.”
“It’s reasonable for him to be the male lead.”
“I hope we can all support each other and improve together during filming.”
“Let’s work hard and produce a great drama!”
One after another, the cast voiced their opinions. When they first entered the room, many had doubted and looked down on Chen Fang, but he conquered them all with just a few minutes of crying scenes.
It had to be said: fate was truly unfair. Chen Fang’s talent in singing was already extraordinary, and now it turned out he was equally gifted in acting.
Chen Fang smiled and nodded in response. Acting wasn’t singing; singing was a solo act, but acting required collaboration with the entire crew. Cultivating good relationships with these people was essential for improving his craft.

Moreover, all the actors in the room had Xi Dong’s approval. The more Chen Fang interacted and learned from them, the more it would help him enhance his acting skills.
Originally, Xi Dong’s schedule was already delayed, and not knowing Chen Fang’s acting abilities made him estimate that filming “Eternal Love” would take at least six months. Now, it seemed that might not be necessary. The actors present were highly skilled, and Chen Fang wouldn’t hold anyone back. This would likely allow the filming to wrap up much sooner.
“Everyone, get a good rest tonight. Everything else is ready. Tomorrow, we officially start filming—good luck to us all!” Xi Dong was in high spirits. The frustration and discomfort he had felt from the previous lead actors vanished completely, and he even felt a bit grateful to those two actors from Chuangxiang Entertainment.
Mu Xing wanted to speak with Chen Fang, but Su Murou shot her a dangerous glare. Mu Xing felt a chill in her heart. “See you tomorrow, Brother Chen,” she said hurriedly before leaving Xi Dong’s room.
Su Murou glanced at Chen Fang and whispered, “Bo Niu is still here. Don’t go chasing other girls, or I’ll tell Bo Niu!”
With a sway of her hips clad in tight jeans, Su Murou also left.
For a moment, only Xi Dong and Chen Fang remained in the room.
Curious, Xi Dong asked, “The Bo Niu Murou just mentioned—is she your...?”
“Please don’t tell me she’s your girlfriend!” Xi Dong silently prayed. Otherwise, his own silly daughter really stood no chance.
Xi Dong was growing increasingly fond of Chen Fang. If he could, he would like to set Chen Fang up with his daughter Xi Yuanyuan, but unfortunately, his daughter was too unmotivated.
“I’m her boyfriend,” Chen Fang scratched his head and smiled.
Good! The worry finally lifted.
Xi Dong sighed. Though a bit late, it was better than nothing. From Chen Fang’s expression, Xi Dong could see how much he loved this girl named Bo Niu. Chen Fang admitted it naturally, without any hesitation or affectation, which was one reason Xi Dong liked him so much—he was straightforward and genuine.
Meanwhile, his own silly daughter was still playing hard to get.
Little did she know, someone else had already made the first move.
