Chapter 147: Unexpected Awakening - 2
Because ordinary people’s bio-magnetic fields cannot come into contact with superpower particles at all.
The two are like radios tuned to different frequencies, utterly incapable of receiving “radio waves” of a higher energy level.
That was why the personnel handling logistics in the core zone were Special Forces soldiers like Second Lieutenant Zhou—men who knew the supernatural world existed but were still ordinary humans—rather than low-level supernaturals.
After all, when the barrier sealing off the core zone collapsed, vast quantities of supernatural energy particles had leaked out.
To high-level Transcendent Warriors like Bai Yuxi and the others, the density of those particles might have been so low as to be almost imperceptible.
But to supernaturals ranked only F1, or even below F1, entering the core zone was as dangerous as deep-sea diving without an oxygen tank. They were actually safer staying outside than the ordinary Special Forces soldiers.
Second Lieutenant Zhou’s misfortune lay in the fact that he had chosen neither an early nor a late moment to awaken.
He had to become tainted with “multidimensional energy-matter pheromones” at precisely this moment, causing the cells of his body to be infiltrated by free X-particles drifting through space!
If he had merely remained in the high-density superparticle environment of Mount Hualan’s supernatural incident core zone, that would have been one thing.
At worst, he would have fallen seriously ill after awakening and needed a long period of recuperation. The benefits he gained in return would still have been considerable.
But fate had other plans.
He happened to run into the Seventh Squad, who had just emerged from inside the mountain.
And what sort of people made up the Seventh Squad at that moment?
Apart from Su Xiaoke, there were six people who had gone too far “grinding experience” with Bai Yuxi.
Every pore in their bodies was hissing out dense superpower particles. They were practically “humanoid particle generators”!
What would happen when a newcomer who had just been tainted by pheromones and was beginning to suffer X-particle infiltration encountered six “pseudo-F10-level” Transcendent Warriors who had absorbed a massive amount of superpower particles but were leaking them because they could not digest them?
Especially when Second Lieutenant Zhou was engaged in close physical contact with Wiley, that overly familiar fellow, who had thrown an arm around his shoulders...
According to Bai Yuxi’s perception, the quantity of “superpower particles” within Second Lieutenant Zhou’s body rose from virtually undetectable to F1 within the space of a few breaths. Then it surged through F2, F3, F4...
This was bad!
Before Second Lieutenant Zhou could even say a word, he toppled forward into Wiley’s arms.
Bai Yuxi gave a bitter smile as he looked around at the Special Forces soldiers ordered to “keep watch” over the Seventh Squad.
They saw their commanding officer being “abducted” by Wiley, the black foreigner, who was holding him in his arms and groping him in a highly improper manner. Furious, they immediately surrounded them.
“Get down!”
“Hands in the air!”
“Put your hands behind your head and lie face down on the ground!”
Amid a clatter of bolts being pulled back, more than a dozen armed soldiers immediately pressed their weapons against the heads of Bai Yuxi and the others.
Though everyone was protected by Transcendent Shields and had no reason to fear ordinary firearms, being struck by high-rate-of-fire weapons at such close range would still hurt, all right?
“Don’t get nervous!”
Bai Yuxi raised both hands to show that he meant no harm and shouted, “Second Lieutenant Zhou was merely infiltrated by X-particles, which caused him to awaken!”
Seeing how cooperative Bai Yuxi was, the Special Forces soldiers surrounding the Seventh Squad all turned their gazes toward the soldier in command, waiting for his next order.
The captain of the Special Forces team felt a headache coming on as well. He nodded and signaled for the soldiers to lower their weapons.
It was best to stop while things were still under control.
The Transcendent Warriors had already shown them plenty of consideration.
Had they not noticed that, apart from the one doing the talking, none of the others had even opened their eyes despite having guns pointed at their heads?
These Transcendent Warriors were all notoriously arrogant and unruly.
The fact that they had not reacted excessively to such a threatening maneuver was already a great concession, likely because of the pleasant conversation they had shared with Second Lieutenant Zhou.
Otherwise, if a fight really broke out, even if the other side killed these ordinary Special Forces soldiers, their superiors would be powerless to do anything about it.
“What happened?”
The disturbance in the logistics area soon alerted Battalion Commander Xie Long.
Seeing Second Lieutenant Zhou unconscious on the ground, he had no time to ask what had happened before roaring furiously, “What are you standing around for? Get Mouse to the medical station in the rear, now!”
“If you don’t want him to die, you’d better not move him!”
Several Special Forces soldiers moved forward, intending to carry Second Lieutenant Zhou away, but Su Xiaoke suddenly stopped them.
“Why?”
Battalion Commander Xie Long frowned, but his attitude was no longer as harsh as before.
Although he was an upright man, he knew how to adapt. He had little affection for these “undisciplined, unorganized” Transcendent teams, but he also understood that when it came to matters involving the supernatural world, Bai Yuxi and the other Transcendent Warriors had greater authority to speak.
Su Xiaoke was cold by nature and was not particularly amiable with unfamiliar outsiders.
Without answering Battalion Commander Xie Long’s question, she walked past him to Second Lieutenant Zhou and examined him with the simple testing equipment she carried.
“Second Lieutenant Zhou has excellent physical attributes.”
“Even before awakening, his vital statistics had already reached the F3 standard.”
“Although the circumstances of his awakening are rather ‘special,’ he will gain considerable benefits if he can endure it.”
“Assuming nothing unexpected happens, once the awakening process is complete, he will have an extremely high starting point—approximately F3.”
After confirming that Second Lieutenant Zhou was in no mortal danger, Su Xiaoke rose and said calmly, “If he receives proper training during the adaptation period, then while his vital statistics are rapidly increasing, it is not impossible for him to advance beyond F5.”
“Vital statistics at F3 without even having awakened?”
“Even Tyson, the ear-biting one, was only around F2 at his peak, wasn’t he?”
Wiley let out a strange cry of astonishment. “Could this guy also be one of those legendary ‘supernova individuals’?”
The members of the Seventh Squad had more or less guessed why Second Lieutenant Zhou had ended up in his current state.
So they collectively rolled their eyes at the dark-skinned fellow who had no idea that he had nearly killed the man.
What was there to find so strange?
Could he stop assuming that everyone with high vital statistics was a supernova?
Second Lieutenant Zhou had been permitted to participate in a supernatural incident despite being an ordinary person.
He naturally came from one of the special forces units of the Flame Nation whose designations and organizational structures were classified as top secret.
Every member accepted into those highly classified special forces units was an elite whose physical abilities had reached the pinnacle of ordinary human potential.
Add to that their years of combat experience and their status as hardened warriors who had spent their lives walking the line between life and death, and their natural starting point was higher than that of ordinary civilian awakeners.
To be continued.
