Chapter 158: Psychokinesis
"Are you sure it's not because they are asleep?"
Bai Yuxi asked with a rather strange expression, glancing at the dozing members of the Seventh Squad.
Right next to him, Drumstick was sleeping with drool spilling out of his mouth. Was he really sure that fellow could hear him? Even if he did hear it, he would probably just think he was dreaming, wouldn't he?
Su Xiaoke was clearly stunned for a moment, likely not having considered this point.
However, the female academic genius quickly dismissed it nonchalantly: "It's not just telepathic transmission! Look!"
With that, Su Xiaoke looked down at the floor where Bai Yuxi's regenerated steel beads had just scattered.
Her brow was furrowed, and she seemed to be concentrating deeply on something.
Among the regenerated steel beads rolling around on the floor due to the transport plane's turbulence, one of them was suddenly "frozen" in place!
Then, it began to slowly float upward, swaying before coming to a halt right in front of Bai Yuxi!
"Psychokinesis?"
Bai Yuxi asked in surprise, "Telekinesis?"
"I'm not sure if this counts as psychokinesis or telekinesis."
"I just actively used my thoughts to touch the ball of light in my mind, and it immediately felt like an instinct, making me realize I could do this."
Su Xiaoke nodded, but as her attention wavered, that regenerated steel bead instantly dropped back to the floor.
"Theoretically, the degree of your brain enhancement far exceeds mine. Since I can do it, you should be able to do it too..."
Telepathic communication took virtually no time at all.
So, almost simultaneously with Su Xiaoke transmitting that thought, the fallen steel bead floated up into the air once more.
Seeing Su Xiaoke's pleasantly surprised expression, Bai Yuxi shook his head, indicating that this wasn't him also mastering telekinesis, but rather the instinctive use of his electromagnetic ability.
Staring at the regenerated steel bead floating in front of him until his eyes almost crossed, Bai Yuxi still couldn't feel what this so-called telekinesis was supposed to feel like.
As for telepathic transmission, that was even less possible for him. He could only transmit his thoughts through the "conscious channel" built by Su Xiaoke, and lacked the ability to actively send his thoughts outward on his own. Once Su Xiaoke's conscious channel disconnected, he would lose touch with her entirely.
"That doesn't make sense!"
"I've been awakened for less than four months, so it's impossible that I can do it."
"Yet you, who have endured six years of contamination and whose brain tissue has undergone a high degree of 'energetic materialization,' cannot?"
Su Xiaoke thought for a moment and said, "It's probably because recently you've focused too much on training your electromagnetic ability, so your first reaction was to use magnetic control, which ended up interfering with the telekinetic control..."
Just as she was speaking, the transport plane suddenly hit a patch of turbulence, causing the fuselage to shudder violently.
Bai Yuxi, who was staring intently at the floating steel bead, was startled!
With a sharp "biu~" sound, that regenerated steel bead bounced around the cabin like a ricocheting bullet. After sparking a few tiny flashes, it vanished without a trace!
Meanwhile, the massive pile of equipment crates stacked in front of him also suffered a violent jolt, causing the tightened straps securing the crates to emit a crisp, metallic clang!
The sudden turbulence triggered a chorus of screams and curses among the Transcendent fighters in the cabin, and no one happened to notice this negligible anomaly.
Startled out of his wits, Bai Yuxi felt a cold sweat instantly break out all along his spine.
Sweeping the area with his electromagnetic perception, he finally located the regenerated steel bead embedded deep into the metal of the cabin ceiling.
The two of them exchanged a dumbfounded, shaken look, feeling a lingering wave of terror. It was a good thing it hadn't pierced through the fuselage—after all, they were still flying at an altitude of several thousand meters!
"Just now..."
Su Xiaoke looked at Bai Yuxi with a face full of shock.
Bai Yuxi was somewhat dazed; he wasn't sure whether his magnetic control had been at work just then, or if it had been telekinesis.
Yet, given his current electromagnetic capabilities, he didn't seem capable of launching a steel bead with such ferocious force.
Furthermore, every single crate in the massive pile in front of him—which had nearly snapped the specialized steel straps—weighed several hundred kilograms, an effect far beyond what that level of air turbulence could have produced!
For the sake of their own lives, neither of them dared to try anything rash again.
Fortunately, the straight-line distance from Jiangcheng to the Sichuan-Yunnan border was only about two thousand kilometers, with a flight time of just over two hours. It was much safer to stay put and study the phenomenon after landing.
Until they got off the plane, Bai Yuxi failed to extract the embedded steel bead from the cabin ceiling using his electromagnetic ability... He just hoped it wouldn't affect the aircraft's structural integrity or cause any trouble for the crew on their return flight.
However, he had no time to ponder it further, for the moment the rear hatch of the Y-45B transport plane opened, a convoy of military off-road vehicles came roaring through a billow of dust, screeching to a halt right behind the aircraft.
Then, a group of Special Logistics soldiers rushed forward, shouldering and carrying the supplies from the cabin into the backs of the vehicles. The moment one truck was filled, it roared away from the airfield!
"No time to explain!"
The commanding officer shouted furiously, "Get in the vehicle, now!"
Without a word of explanation, the special operations soldiers grabbed the civilian-origin Transcendent fighters, dragging and pulling them into the vehicles, before slamming on the gas and speeding off into the distance!
Moving at lightning speed, Bai Yuxi was spun around and disoriented to the point where he couldn't even make out the scenery along the route before being delivered to the Rolling Lake Camp.
Even with the physique of these Transcendent fighters, they were almost driven to the point of vomiting by the frantic driving of the special operations soldiers.
A pale-faced Bai Yuxi deeply suspected that once that guy had slammed the accelerator to the floor, he hadn't let up for the entire journey!
Upon arriving at the lakeside, before Bai Yuxi and the others could even catch their breath, they were herded onto an assault boat and sped toward the center of the lake.
In the distance, around a relatively small island in the middle of Rolling Lake, overlapping layers of barrier walls extended into the water like curtains, completely isolating the island's waters from the outside world.
Within those layered barrier walls, numerous temporary steel platforms constructed by the Special Logistics bridging troops floated on the lake surface like giant building blocks.
From far away, the intense sounds of explosions and angry roars could be heard coming from within the barrier, and crimson flames occasionally surged upward, illuminating the sky like fireworks!
Fortunately, it was still daytime; under the bright light, the flashes of fire weren't too conspicuous, and the area around Rolling Lake had already been placed under martial law by the military.
Otherwise, given Rolling Lake's status as a tourist attraction, an energy explosion of this scale would surely have alarmed tourists coming from afar.
The assault boat likely carried a particle interference device, allowing it to smoothly pass through layer after layer of barrier walls without obstruction,
delivering Bai Yuxi and his companions to one of the steel platforms. This was the defensive position they were assigned to garrison.
