Hearing that the highest danger level was only E1, the members of the Seventh Squad breathed a sigh of relief.

With Bai Yuxi, a humanoid monster whose combat power could not be judged by ordinary standards, among them, a small number of E1-level mutated snakes should not pose much of a problem.

“The one that broke through the fourth line of defense earlier…”

Before they could finish exhaling, however, the officer leading the team struck them with the truth.

“Was a D-class mutated snake!”

“Still, with your group of over-limit warriors arriving, the inner defenses have been reinforced considerably.”

“In theory, we shouldn’t see any more situations where high-level extraordinary creatures break through the defenses because our defensive strength is insufficient and mobile support from advanced combat forces arrives too late.”

“So, once an E-class mutated snake enters our defensive area, we only need to hold out for about thirty seconds before mobile forces arrive to support us!”

The officer raised his head and said gravely, “If you truly can’t hold it back, there is also a defensive energy barrier on the combat platform that can protect us for a short time.”

“What we need to watch out for is that, due to their mutations, all snake-type extraordinary creatures are generally poisonous, regardless of what species they were before mutating!”

“Xieva Island is already home to highly venomous snakes such as bamboo vipers, red-banded kraits, and black rat snakes. After mutation, not only do they grow much larger, their venom also becomes vastly more potent!”

“A few species can even spray corrosive venom through the air. So whatever you do, don’t get bitten or splashed with venom. None of the known antivenoms have any effect on the venom of these mutated snakes… The overwhelming majority of the personnel who died earlier succumbed to poisoning!”

A chill ran through everyone.

Most of these native mutated creatures had no unusual abilities.

Yet the abilities they had evolved naturally were already extraordinarily dangerous after being strengthened by mutation.

“Are we really going to be picking fights with snakes, bugs, rats, and ants now?” Xia Youyou shuddered and complained. “First toads, then rats, and now these slippery long worms… Ugh, disgusting!”

“All right, that’s the general situation. Are you ready?”

“Once the energy-wall portal is opened, it cannot be closed until the energy is depleted or the particle interferer is damaged!”

After explaining the intelligence, the officer glanced at the time and asked, “If you’re ready, we’ll begin preparing to open the energy-wall portal!”

The group exchanged glances, stood up, stretched their limbs, checked their equipment, and took a deep breath before nodding to the officer.

Seeing this, the officer began issuing orders in an orderly fashion. The special forces soldiers immediately busied themselves, deploying particle interferers and activating the detection radar.

“Prepare to open the energy-wall portal!”

Once everything was ready, the officer looked at the group and raised his arm high.

“Three! Two! One… Open!”

Under the control of the special forces soldiers, a floating remote-controlled particle interferer glided across like a small model boat, stopping before the barrier wall opposite the metal combat platform.

A beam of light shot out, opening a tiny barrier gate roughly the size of a bowl near the water’s surface—the energy-wall portal the officer had mentioned.

The instant the opening appeared in the energy wall, a huge bluish-gray snake with mottled markings slithered through. It raised its head and hissed at the group before swiftly winding its way toward them!

The bluish-gray snake was about ten meters long. At first glance it looked slender, but in reality its body was as thick as a large bowl, startling everyone.

Was this a snake?

It was more like a python!

Still, considering that native creatures exposed to X-particle contamination generally underwent massive physical growth after mutating, a normal snake one or two meters long becoming a mutated snake over ten meters long did not seem all that outrageous.

Back at Mount Hualan, a rat no bigger than a palm had mutated into a colossal beast the size of an elephant!

Remembering the officer’s warning, everyone assumed battle stances.

Bai Yuxi still stood at the very front, with the two shield guards, Chicken Leg and Jason, protecting his flanks.

Behind them, Lofi and Maya waited for an opportunity to attack, while Willy and Xia Youyou remained at the rear, ready to provide support at any moment. This was practically their standard battle formation by now.

The bluish-gray snake was incredibly fast. The moment it emerged from the opening, it had already covered the distance in a single burst.

When it was still five or six meters away, it launched itself from the water. Its enormous maw, lined with razor-sharp fangs, opened nearly one hundred and eighty degrees as it viciously lunged at Bai Yuxi in front!

“Holy crap!”

Bai Yuxi had grown up in the city and was seeing a live snake for the first time—and one this enormous at that. He instinctively swore and punched out.

And then… there was no “then.”

Even without taking into account the fourfold damage amplification provided by the pair of combat gloves on his hands, whose energy-conduction rate was three percent, a single “F10. Ten-Thousand-Two. Ninety-Nine-Style Spear” unleashed nine particle bombardments, enough to stack up a staggering 1.35 million points of damage!

Thus, when a spear-shaped stream of particles burst forth and blasted into the belly of this merely F5-level mutated snake as though filling it from within, it instantly turned the creature in midair into a hollow “snake-skin tube”!

“…”

As the hazy, shimmering superpowered particles gathered around the scraps of flesh that had been blasted into bloody mist and scattered several meters away, everyone fell speechless.

Maya, standing behind Bai Yuxi, picked up the “snake-skin tube” drifting down onto the water before them and said happily, “We could make a snakeskin belt out of this—or maybe a snakeskin handbag?”

“I think…” Chicken Leg glanced back at the special forces soldiers, who were already standing there dumbfounded, and muttered, “Maybe we were a little too nervous?”

“Xiaobai, you could go a little easier!”

“But it’s still better to be cautious!”

Su Xiaoke, who had contributed little more than moral support, nodded. She extended a hand toward the water, and a crystal-clear E-crystal rose from beneath the surface and dropped into her palm.

“This was only an F5-level mutated snake, evolved from a nonvenomous water snake.”

After examining it, Su Xiaoke continued, “For now, my telekinetic range is only about ten meters. Although the combat platform isn’t far from the shore and the water isn’t very deep, if we fight too far away, I won’t be able to reach anything.”

“Huh?”

“A new ability?”

Only then did everyone realize that Su Xiaoke had not opened her mouth even once during the entire exchange.

After their first victory, Bai Yuxi gave an awkward laugh and slightly relaxed his tense nerves. He left the female prodigy to explain her newly awakened ability to the others.

Bai Yuxi released both his “super magnetic sensing” and “electromagnetic sensing” simultaneously, forming a dual sensing field that spread throughout the entire barrier space. In an instant, the combat zone fell within the range of his perception.
