Chapter 028: Overlimit Battle - 4
“Primal X Weapon?”
Because Bai Yuxi moved so quickly, the middle-aged leader had no time to stop him. At this point, he couldn’t be bothered to argue with the members of the Seventh Squad anymore. He quickly gathered with his two remaining subordinates.
“Friend!”
Wariness flickered in his eyes as he looked at the "old axe" in Bai Yuxi’s hand and then at the peculiar armor he wore. As if a sudden realization struck him, his expression changed dramatically. “It was just a misunderstanding—there’s no need to go to such extremes, right?”
“Oh, so now that you realize you can’t win, it’s suddenly a misunderstanding?”
“You put up a barrier the moment you arrived—weren’t you afraid we’d escape?”
Before Bai Yuxi could reply, the sharp-tongued Willy burst out like a machine gun, hurling a string of curses.
Willy, though an agility-type Overlimit Warrior and the scout of the Seventh Squad, was still a rank below the enemy’s own scout—who was also an agility-type Overlimit Warrior. In both "supernormal power" and "physical stats," Willy was significantly outmatched.
So although he managed to entangle his counterpart earlier and reduce the pressure on his teammates, he was nearly hacked to death in the process and was still bleeding from two fresh wounds. If Bai Yuxi hadn’t exploded into action in time, taking down one of the attackers and intimidating the rest of the Black Super Domain operatives, a few seconds’ delay could have cost him his life. Having brushed so close to death, Willy was understandably furious.
Hearing Willy’s words, Bai Yuxi glanced at the three men standing on high alert, then at the shimmering light membrane behind them. Only then did he realize why they hadn’t tried to escape immediately.
“Friend, leave a line for others, and you’ll meet again in peace.”
“It was my mistake, offending you today—we’ll accept whatever comes.”
The middle-aged leader, having lost two men in an instant, endured Willy’s tirade with a sullen face but had no choice but to swallow his anger. “Please, show some mercy. Let us go this time—if we meet again, I’ll never forget your kindness.”
“Let you go?”
“Why didn’t you let us go just now?”
Little Pepper, still bristling with anger, leapt out. “You say ‘we’ll remember your kindness if we meet again,’ but I bet you’ll just gather more men to hunt us down the moment our backs are turned!”
“Conflicts between supernormal organizations happen all the time.”
“We see each other constantly in River City—burning all bridges won’t do anyone any good.”
The middle-aged leader, knowing he was in the wrong, didn’t argue with Willy or Xia Youyou. He recognized that only this "Level 7 expert" in front of him had any real say at this moment. After a few conciliatory words, he couldn’t help adding a hint of threat: “Besides, we’re with Blackfire Society… Wouldn’t it be better to end things here?”
Blackfire Society.
The members of the Seventh Squad exchanged glances, all eyes turning to the silent Bai Yuxi.
Though the Blackfire Society wasn’t a top-tier force in River City, it was a leading second-tier supernormal organization, stronger even than the Firebird Squad, which enjoyed protection from the LDH Overlimit Administration.
Given the Seventh Squad’s current strength, it seemed unlikely they could wipe out the enemy completely. If even one of them escaped, endless troubles would follow. There was no point in expecting an underground organization like Blackfire Society, steeped in the Black Super Domain, to show any restraint.
Unfortunately for the leader, his veiled threats were wasted on deaf ears.
Could anyone expect a newly awakened rookie to know much about the supernormal world, let alone fear the various factions within it?
“Blackfire Society… Is that supposed to be impressive?”
Bai Yuxi tilted his head, let his words hang unfinished, and then darted forward to attack.
The old axe in his hand suddenly blazed with orange light as he swung it fiercely at the middle-aged leader’s head.
As the leader of the Seventh Squad, Luo Fei had not intended to become mortal enemies with these Overlimit Warriors from Blackfire Society. As the other side said, conflicts between supernormal organizations over resources, hunting grounds, and even trivial matters were commonplace in this law-of-the-jungle society. The one with the bigger fist made the rules.
But generally, no one wanted a fight to the death with another supernormal faction. After all, even if you destroyed your enemy, your own losses would be heavy, only for a third party to swoop in and take advantage.
Moreover, the Seventh Squad’s position in the Firebird Squad was “awkward”; their chief was unlikely to risk a feud with Blackfire Society on their behalf. Firebird itself wasn’t as strong as outsiders assumed. Luo Fei and her team really had no confidence in winning a war of attrition.
So seeing the enemy back down, Luo Fei had secretly breathed a sigh of relief, planning to persuade Bai Yuxi to let matters rest. She doubted Blackfire Society would dare seek revenge openly.
But when Bai Yuxi attacked, Luo Fei was dumbstruck. Only after a long moment did she realize: this boy was a newly awakened rookie, utterly ignorant of the supernormal world’s unspoken rules and codes of conduct.
To strike so ruthlessly when the other side had already conceded—this was clearly an attempt to eradicate future threats.
Though her expression changed, Luo Fei and the others had no choice but to act. Now that things had escalated, it was out of their hands: either they annihilated the opposition to prevent loose ends, or they’d have to endure Blackfire Society’s endless vengeance.
Bai Yuxi’s full-powered outburst was so overwhelming that the Blackfire Society’s middle-aged leader dared not meet his attack head-on, forced instead to dodge the blows of the "old axe" in utter disarray.
Missing his first strike, Bai Yuxi—knowing he lacked combat skill—simply relied on the strength of his supernormal shield, charging in without dodging at all.
Luo Fei, Drumstick, Willy, and Xia Youyou, four against two, kept the remaining Blackfire Society members tightly pinned, giving them no chance to help their leader.
Luckily for the leader, Bai Yuxi’s attacks were crude and unsophisticated, as he’d had no combat training. This allowed the middle-aged man to barely hold his ground, even attempt a few counterattacks—though none landed.
Yet Bai Yuxi suddenly noticed something: the enemy seemed deeply fearful of the old axe in his hands.
When he feigned a strike at the man’s metal gauntlet, the leader didn’t even dare block it—he could only dodge desperately, flinching from every blow.
