Chapter 065: Investigation Mission - 2
According to Su Xiaoke, she had already erased all traces of “Dream 7,” disguising it as the “Dream 1” model. Although a full set of “Dream 1” was considered a luxury version of over-limit equipment domestically, it was still far more discreet than the conspicuous “Dream 7.”
Inside the supply pack were 1500ml of “Carbon Matrix Supplement Fluid” and twelve “Bioenergy Active Nutrition Gels,” enough to replenish the consumption after a high-intensity battle. After all, Bai Yuxi was still a “patient” at this stage; he needed to supplement his body’s nutrients and bioenergy promptly to suppress the cell exhaustion and genetic collapse caused by hyper-evolution. These supplies were indispensable.
“I’ve already installed a vital sign monitoring device and a battlefield tracking recorder in your equipment,” Su Xiaoke said calmly. “I’ll be monitoring your condition in real time. If anything unusual happens, I’ll notify you immediately for emergency treatment. Also, if you encounter extraordinary creatures, your combat data will be valuable research material. The ‘Over-limit Combat Theory’ you developed can be further refined during battle, and I’ll keep a record for you from the rear.”
Su Xiaoke’s words made Bai Yuxi, equipped with his personal armor and preparing to join his first extraordinary mission, feel both nervous and excited. He didn’t know what to say, so he simply nodded, “Thank you, Senior Su!”
Willie, who was eyeing Bai Yuxi’s ultra-luxury American military over-limit set with envy, muttered jealously under his breath, “I bet Su is planning a live test on the lab rat’s reactions, that’s why she’s being so nice to him…” Before he could finish, the goddess scholar shot him a cold look, instantly silencing the black foreigner, who shrank back and dared not utter another word.
Due to the short sword Maya had damaged, she had to temporarily switch to a standard combat blade confiscated from a member of Black Fire Society. However, the straight blade, measuring 1.5 meters from hilt to tip, was unwieldy for Maya, who was accustomed to lightweight short swords. She couldn’t fully utilize her “speed-oriented” melee prowess, but since the mission couldn’t wait, she’d have to find a suitable replacement afterward.
Bai Yuxi also felt that his old axe wasn’t particularly handy, so he grabbed another weapon—fortunately, there were several options among last night’s spoils. Considering his X-energy level with super-cohesion properties, Bai Yuxi needed at least an X-weapon with an energy conduction rate of 0.6–0.8% to balance his combat power, but these standard combat blades with a 0.4% conduction rate would have to suffice for now.
He just couldn’t afford to go berserk like yesterday, mindlessly unleashing his power and breaking another X-weapon. Though these mass-produced regenerative combat blades were considered low-grade X-weapons, their price on the black market was anything but cheap!
Once everything was ready, Drumstick, who had gone ahead, somehow brought over a large black SUV. After Bai Yuxi climbed in, he realized that the spacious SUV had undergone extensive modifications. Inside were various emergency and medical devices, and even a command system.
He soon learned that for official missions issued by LDH, registered squad members could borrow various duty vehicles equipped at Jialuo Mountain Base. Apparently, with the right clearance, they could even borrow an armed helicopter—if they knew how to pilot it. But for Squad Seven, only the lowest-tier standard duty vehicles were available.
Still, it was better than running over on foot or hiring a shady van for transport.
“Do over-limit squads usually operate at night?” Bai Yuxi asked, watching Su Xiaoke, who had taken off her lab coat and donned simple protective gear, skillfully calibrate the command system. “Why do we have to wait until it’s pitch black to carry out our mission? How can we find extraordinary creatures in the dark?”
“There’s no strict regulation about acting at night,” Drumstick explained while adjusting her gear. “But first, there are fewer people around at night, so exposure is less likely and the impact is much lower than during the day. Second, whether it’s native mutant creatures (EN-UMA) or dimensional space entities (MS-UMA), they tend to avoid crowds. Extraordinary creatures instinctively resist the light pollution, noise, and contamination in densely populated cities, so they usually hide in deserted mountains, abandoned urban structures, or even sewers—places where humans rarely go.”
“At night, when the city is quiet, these extraordinary creatures lurking within come out to move and hunt. Unless it’s an emergency, extraordinary personnel typically choose to operate at night.”
“You don’t know, Little Bai!” Willie, who was driving, waved his arms and exclaimed, “The Crab God’s prohibition is terrifying! Extraordinary personnel have a duty to protect ordinary people from extraordinary creatures, or else—slice and dice! They’re responsible for eliminating any threat to humanity posed by extraordinary creatures, or else—slice and dice! They must never disclose any information about the extraordinary world to ordinary people, or else—slice and dice… ow!”
Willie clutched the back of his head in pain, and the SUV swerved into an S-shape on the road.
“Damn it! Watch your driving!” Jason, sitting in the passenger seat, flicked Willie’s forehead and scolded him, “Are you trying to kill us?”
Curiously, Willie, the black foreigner, wasn’t afraid of Captain Lofi or Deputy Captain Drumstick, but he was terrified of his Prussian Federal teammate, Jason—probably because he’d been beaten up by this martial arts fanatic more than once. Despite being of African descent, not every African was built like an ox. Willie, with his slim “agility-oriented” frame, was almost as thin as lightning and not even as sturdy as Bai Yuxi, who was undergoing hyper-evolution. If Jason dragged him off as a sparring dummy again, he couldn’t take it.
So, after being struck, Willie could only sulk and drive quietly, shrinking into his seat.
“Don’t listen to Willie’s nonsense; there’s no such thing as ‘slice and dice’,” Jason explained to Bai Yuxi once the black foreigner calmed down. “LDH’s prohibitions are strict, but it’s not as extreme as ‘slice and dice’ at the drop of a hat.”
