Chapter 153: Clouds of Suspicion
Now we can talk! But before we begin, may I ask a question? Mei looked at Galor and asked in highly fluent Elven.
Of course! Whatever your question is, go ahead and ask! Galor gazed directly at the exquisite and pretty little person before him, feeling that her aura was entirely unlike that of a child. From the moment they met, various scenarios completely contrary to his expectations had left him with a faint sense of disorientation.
Please, how did you determine that I am your sister? Is it based on this bracelet? Or on our similar appearances? Before clearing up this matter, Mei had no intention of going anywhere with him.
In case he turned out to be mistaken and casually tossed them out into the universe, that would still be the least of her worries. But if he suspected her of deceiving him and resorted to violence, it would only cause even more trouble!
"Phi... Meier, you are my sister, there is no need to doubt this point! I told you before, the bracelet on your wrist is made of holy stone. The holy stone is harvested from the most mysterious forbidden area of our Saint-Stecaphira Empire, the Holy Mountain! The holy stone usually cannot be mined; it only appears when a member of the imperial family is born! Therefore, the holy stone is also the companion stone of the Saint-Stecaphira imperial family! Each piece of holy stone can only be activated by the spiritual power of its companion; no matter how strong anyone else's spiritual power is, it is impossible to activate it! Extend your hand and try injecting your spiritual power into the bracelet!"
Galor pulled back his sleeve, revealing the identical bracelet on his wrist, and placed it on the small table.
Although Mei was still somewhat skeptical, she obediently extended her hand to reveal her bracelet, placing it beside his on the small table. Then, she channeled her spiritual power into it.
Previously, when communicating mentally with Galor, her spiritual power had entered the bracelet, but in a very small quantity. This time, she deliberately refrained from controlling her spiritual power, allowing it to surge in large amounts into the so-called holy stone. As a result, something unexpected happened!
The originally black bracelet gradually turned pale, shifted to white, and then began to transform from green into a translucent, vibrant emerald green. At the same time, a faint glow and peculiar patterns emerged upon its surface.
The moment Mei's bracelet began to emit light, Galor's bracelet seemed to respond to a summons, undergoing the exact same transformation.
When his bracelet likewise turned emerald green, Mei sensed a mysterious attraction between the two bracelets. Their radiance grew brighter, completely enveloping the two of them together.
Seeing this, those who had accompanied Galor immediately dropped to one knee before the two figures, pressing their right hands to their chests in a respectful salute.
Mochen and the others also looked on at this scene in surprise. Although, apart from Cyrill, the others had no idea what the two had been saying, watching them act as though performing some sort of ritual naturally stirred a strange thought in their minds.
Was Galor's sister actually Mei, or Number Nine?
Why did they feel that Mei was much more like his sister?
If not for this, how could the two look so remarkably alike?
As the radiance faded, Mei and Galor simultaneously withdrew their hands.
"Do you still worry that I've mistaken the person?" Galor asked with a smile.
Mei shook her head, yet the look she gave Galor grew even more complex.
What on earth was going on here?
When she originally entered Number Nine's body, Number Nine had already died. Although she had just passed away, her spiritual power had completely dissipated. Therefore, when their consciousnesses merged, her own spiritual power remained entirely unaffected.
Yet why was her spiritual power able to activate the holy stone that belonged exclusively to Number Nine?
Could it be that their spiritual powers were completely identical?
This was simply too incredible!
The frequency of everyone's spiritual wave fluctuation was unique. While they might be very similar, it was utterly impossible for them to be an exact match.
Yet just now, when she injected her spiritual power into the bracelet, she distinctly felt the resonance between her own spiritual power and the interior of the bracelet. That innate resonance of the exact same frequency could not occur if even the slightest discrepancy existed.
Only if her spiritual frequency and Number Nine's were completely identical could this situation be explained.
Yet could this really be possible?
Mei managed to suppress the doubts in her heart and spoke up, "The holy stone is indeed miraculous! But what was that phenomenon just now? Do all holy stones produce this kind of resonant effect?"
"Of course not! Because we are full siblings, and we possess half-spirit bloodlines within our bodies! Unlike other members of the royal family, only the holy stones of the two of us will produce this resonance. When you were born, such a resonance occurred once before! So do not doubt it anymore; we are unquestionably full siblings sharing the same father and mother, there is no mistake!"
Seeing that she still seemed hesitant, Galor could not help emphasizing.
"Alright! I believe what you said!" Although Mei still believed there were many questionable points to this matter, she conceded in the face of Galor.
She had originally only worried that he had mistaken her identity, but now that he was completely certain, what else did she have to refute? After all, she still needed to rely on his help to leave this planet!
"Do you really believe it? But why are you still unwilling to even call me 'Brother'?" A trace of grievance tinged Galor's expression.
He had never doubted her, so why was she simply unwilling to believe he was her brother?
Mei was slightly stunned by his words, not expecting him to be so sensitive. She opened her mouth, then was astonished to discover that she found herself unable to utter the two words 'Brother' to him!
How could this be?
Clearly, in the past, she could effortlessly call anyone 'brother' without hesitation, even complete strangers she had never met before!
Why couldn't she bring herself to say it now?
"You certainly have the nerve to ask! Brother? By what right do you expect her to acknowledge you as her brother? When she was helpless, treated as an experimental subject, and used for experiments, where were you, this 'brother'? When she suffered and nearly died on several occasions, where was this 'brother'? If you want to know why she ended up like this, I'll tell you: half a year ago, in order to retrieve this bracelet, she almost suffered a genetic collapse and died! And this is the sequela after her recovery! Where was this so-called family of hers at that time?" Cyrill's cold voice interrupted Mei's hesitation.
There were some things Mei would not say, but he could!
"Everything you said is true?" Galor's face turned terrifyingly dark, his eyes locked fixedly on Cyrill. A tremendous pressure instantly enveloped the entire spacecraft, making it difficult for many to even stand.
"Hah, lying to you? What would I gain from it?" Cyrill ignored the pressure exerted by the other man and sneered.
"Dammit! All personnel, attention, return to the Golden Leaf immediately. I will make everyone on this planet pay the price!" Galor abruptly stood up, his gaze icy. All of his previous elegance and nobility vanished, replaced by an unmistakable murderous intent.
Galor wanted to kill; he desperately wanted to kill.
Even destroying this backward planet could not eliminate the fury burning in his heart.
His sister was the most noble princess of the Saint-Stecaphira Empire! She deserved to be held in the palm of their hands and enjoy the finest of everything in this world!
Yet what had the primitives of this planet done?
They had actually used her for experimental research!
They had actually driven her to the brink of genetic collapse and death!
They had almost made it so he could never see her again!
How could he possibly let these people continue to live in this world?
"Wait! You can't do this!" Startled by his sudden declaration, Mei hurried to speak up and stop him.
She might not care about others, but after all, there were still people she knew on this planet, as well as Ye Jingxuan's family. She could not possibly let Galor slaughter everyone!
Though she harbored hatred, her hatred was directed solely at those who had harmed her. Visiting her wrath upon the innocent was something she could never bring herself to do!
"My vengeance, I can exact myself! Those who once harmed me are already dead! What is the point of implicating the innocent?"
Mei's near-indifferent words fell like a basin of cold water on Galor, quenching the raging flames of anger in his heart.
"Meier, I'm sorry! If only I could have found you a little earlier!" Galor's eyes were filled with guilt and apology.
"Hmph! You speak as though you cared about her so much! If you truly cared, how could you have let her, still an infant, drift here all alone? For all your talk of being an empire, couldn't you even find a single person capable of protecting her? And now you put on this act for whose benefit?" Cyrill coldly mocked once more before Mei could speak.
Nor did Mei make any move to stop him.
Although his words sounded rather harsh, those very questions were precisely what she wanted to know.
"It was an accident! No one anticipated that the spacecraft would be attacked by the Zerg. If we had known she would face such a catastrophe, back then, we would never have let her leave no matter what! She is the empire's most treasured princess, how could we not have sent guards to protect her? Without protection, do you think an infant could possibly survive in a wormhole?" Galor could not help letting out a low roar, his tone laden with remorse.
Watching his remorseful expression, Mei sighed softly and stepped before him.
"I don't mean to place blame, I just wanted to know how I ended up in this place. Since it was merely an accident, let us speak no more of it henceforth! Now that I am still alive, and you have found me, you needn't feel guilty any longer!"
"Meier, I am sorry! I failed to protect you back then, causing you to endure so much hardship! From now on, your affairs are your brother's affairs! Brother will surely take good care of you and never let anyone hurt you again!" Galor stepped forward, pulling Mei into his embrace as he spoke solemnly.
At this, Mei nodded gently!
Though many doubts still lingered in her heart, for the present at least, having a brother seemed not at all bad!
She had never experienced what familial affection felt like; she only hoped this brother would not disappoint her! (To be continued.)
