Now, the main story continues.
“Don’t even think about it, you mongrel! Thunder God’s Execution!” Suster sensed the surging chaos of energy within his opponent and immediately realized the demon’s intent to self-destruct. Without hesitation, he pulled out the Spark of Heaven and aimed it at his foe—
Bang—a shot straight to the core…
With a crackling sound, the Spark of Heaven’s unique effect was unleashed. The intensified damage caused the previous wounds to tear open further, and the blood that spurted out was instantly frozen by the weapon’s ice attribute. Then, the current traveled along the ice and blood right into the demon’s body—
A howl of agony—paralysis, cold, pain… Uncontrollable energy burst forth from the wounds, carrying blood with it.
“Your suffering isn’t over yet! You killed my dearest friend—your life isn’t enough to pay the price. I will torment your soul…” Suster spoke as he drew a dagger, the purple runes on it making the half-unconscious demon struggle even more. It was a terror that arose from deep within the soul.
With a soft sound, the blade slid into the demon’s brow.
A flash of purple light, then all of it converged into the violet crystal in Suster’s hand.
He pocketed the crystal, walked over to the corpse, steadied himself, and placed a hand atop the demon’s head. In the next moment, the demon’s massive body transformed into a beam of green light and was absorbed into Suster’s form.
A pillar of lightning shot to the heavens—Suster’s level ascended to the early stage of the eighth tier.
With a thud, once the absorption was complete, Suster collapsed and lost consciousness.
“Young master!!” Sakuya, who had been watching from the side, hurried over, scooped up the fallen Suster, and quickly retreated.
A line divides the first and second day.
Darkness—endless darkness.
Suster wandered aimlessly through a pitch-black void, unable to see his own hand before his face.
“Where… is this place?”
From not far off, the sound of dripping water echoed.
“What’s that sound?” Suster’s steps turned toward the source.
The water’s rush grew louder and louder, until it became a thunderous cascade like a waterfall.
As he moved forward, Suster eventually saw a strange, small waterfall, yet the crash it produced was mightier than any great cascade.
“You’ve come at last, haven’t you? The true self!” A lively, energetic female voice called out.
“So, you’re the soul fragment that split from me? What’s your name?” Suster was genuinely curious about the owner of the voice.
“My name? I could say I’m simply you, the original. But, I wonder—when did you first notice me?” the playful voice responded.
“Do you remember the shadow clone that possessed eighty percent of my power?” Suster tucked his bangs behind his ear as he spoke.
“Ah! So you found out! I was just bored and wanted to go out and have some fun,” the voice replied, evoking the image of a mischievous young girl sticking out her tongue.
“I don’t mind you going out, but it’d be nice if you told me first. After all, you are me, and I’d never harm you—nor could you harm me. Honestly, I should thank you for locking me away here when I almost had a mental breakdown,” Suster said, stepping closer to the waterfall.
“Thank me when you’re outside, not here!” the female voice suddenly sounded a bit shy.
“Hm? Why? I just wanted to get a look at my alternate personality. No need to be so evasive, right?” Suster was puzzled, but proceeded straight through the waterfall’s curtain…
The moment he stepped inside, Suster suddenly burst out again, retreating to a dark corner in utter despair.
“I told you not to come in. I knew you’d react like this,” the waterfall parted like a door, and out stepped a figure identical to Suster in every way—except she was female.
She approached and heard Suster muttering in his pose of dejection.
“This can’t be me, how could this possibly be me? Those measurements—92, 63, 87, by the look of it—it’s impossible! The author must have no shame! Author: Don’t say that, I have plenty of integrity! Suster: Where? I can’t see it! Author: It’s all over the place! Suster: You’ve clearly lost it all. Ugh, big boss, I request a new author! That person can’t be me; I refuse to acknowledge her as my alternate personality!” Suster continued to sulk on the ground, overcome with despair.
“Looks like you’ve recovered from the deaths of Catherine and the others. I’ll let you out now! By the way, when will you get me a body of my own?” the female Suster asked.
“Ah…when there’s a chance. Or maybe next time I visit the world of the Reapers, I’ll get you a system-modified artificial body,” Suster replied after a moment’s thought.
“Great! Then I’ll finally have my own body and won’t have to hide in your subconscious or a clone while you’re unconscious,” she said happily.
“Then let’s give you a name. How about Lolita?” Suster declared.
“Sure! Then from now on, I’m called Lolita!” the—no, Lolita—agreed.
“But why is my alternate personality female?” Suster’s tone suddenly grew serious.
“Um, can I not say?” Lolita hesitated, her bangs hiding her eyes, making it impossible to read her expression.
“What’s wrong?” Suster pressed.
“It’s your fault! Your memories are full of weird otaku prerequisites, and you envy all those real-life crossdressing protagonists. I didn’t want to be contaminated by your otaku thoughts, so I became a girl instead!” Lolita replied, a dark aura forming behind her.
“I was just bored after missions, watching anime and playing games! Wait, what’s that dark, ominous thing behind you? Don’t come any closer! I’m leaving!” Suster began justifying himself, but as Lolita came closer and the darkness around her grew, he quickly made his escape.
“Whew, that Lolita really holds a grudge against me!” Suster suddenly sat bolt upright in bed, pressing a hand to his forehead.
“Young master, you’re awake!” Sakuya appeared at his side.
“Yeah! By the way, how long was I unconscious?” For once, Suster woke without his usual absentmindedness.
“It’s been three days, young master. But you should see Miss Amelie—her injuries have been suspended with my time abilities, but she still needs your healing. She’s still unconscious,” Sakuya explained.
“Damn it! Amelie, Sakuya, where are we?” Suster stood up on the bed.
“We’re in the wooden house I built on the Gentle Breeze Plains. Miss Amelie is in the other room,” Sakuya replied.
“I’ll go treat her right away.” Suster hurried out toward Amelie’s room.
“Young master, wa—” Sakuya tried to stop him, but it was too late.
Bang! “Ouch, what’s going on? Why does my back hurt? Wait, what’s with these wings?” Suster rushed for the door, only to have his wings slam into the frame and bounce him back. And don’t ask why the frame was so sturdy—Sakuya had reinforced it with many magical arrays.
“Did the young master forget everything about the battle?” Sakuya wondered aloud.
“Battle? What battle?” Suster looked completely lost.
“Idiot, I was the one fighting at that time!” came Lolita’s voice in Suster’s mind.
“Huh? How can you talk to me now? You couldn’t before,” Suster asked in surprise.
“Um, young master, who are you talking to?” Sakuya asked, puzzled.
“Is it Sakuya? I’m Suster’s alternate personality. My name is Lolita, nice to meet you,” suddenly came Lolita’s voice from Suster’s mouth.
“Eh? The young master’s alternate personality—a girl?” Sakuya exclaimed in astonishment.
“Hey, don’t just pop out and scare people!” Suster’s own voice returned.
“If it’s inconvenient, just use a clone. And you can retract those wings with a thought,” Lolita instructed.
“I got it. Shadow Clone Technique!” Suster retracted his wings and summoned his shadow clone with eighty percent of his power.
“Ah, finally a body of my own! Still, I don’t really like being just a clone,” said Lolita, now inhabiting the clone.
“Come with me to see Amelie. Also, send me the memory of the battle!” Suster urged.
“Here you go!” “Ah, what’s this? System, open personal information!”
P.S.: I’m considering whether this alternate personality should become a heroine. She’s entirely female, in both body and soul.
