Chapter 102: The Bustling Headquarters of the Holy Blood Council (26/26)
Near Central Avenue in Xinxiang, close to Central Park, stood an unremarkable building. Amidst the towering skyscrapers of Xinxiang, this seventy-some-story edifice was relatively modest in stature.
Yet, some of Xinxiang’s wealthy elite favored this building as their meeting place, with luxury cars and helicopters constantly weaving through the skies above it.
Today, atop the roof near this modest building, a stylish man dressed in a silver suit was gazing intently at the building opposite.
Behind him were two men in standard suits, a gentleman clad in an old-fashioned tailcoat, and two others whose physiques were grotesquely abnormal—their upper bodies no longer resembling humans, arms thicker than their own thighs, hanging long enough to touch the ground, eyes glowing with a fiery red light.
After a long moment, the man in the silver suit finally spoke slowly, “Are we certain this is the right place? That building is truly the headquarters of the Sacred Blood Council? It seems only ordinary people have been coming and going these days.”
“Lord Faster, we have thoroughly investigated all intelligence. This is indeed the headquarters of the Sacred Blood Council. The reason only mortals have been seen entering and exiting lately is that the Council suffered some incidents recently at the Shixi campus. Two vice-chairmen died there.”
“Shixi campus? You mean the Shixi branch of Xinxiang State University? A branch of an inconsequential university? What could possibly be wrong there?”
“It’s still uncertain, but one thing is clear: all of the Sacred Blood Council’s influence at the Shixi campus has been wiped out.”
“So, someone has planted their flag at Shixi campus,” the stylish man said disdainfully. “How shortsighted. Who would want such a broken-down place? Never mind. They had three vice-chairmen; two are dead. Let's find out where the last one is, capture him, and learn what happened to the young master. After that, you know what to do…”
“Rest assured, Lord Faster, the Rait brothers are experts at tearing down buildings.”
“Young master, look! A superhuman has just entered that building.”
“What? Where…”
Meanwhile, Cheng Ming walked toward the building with his hands behind his back, flanked by two subordinates—a man and a woman.
Following them were Xiao Liu and Xiao Wang, two of the five-member team sent by Future Technology on this mission. One served as the driver, the other was the most powerful fighter aside from Cheng Ming himself.
As they neared the Sacred Blood Council’s entrance, Xiao Liu whispered, “Boss Cheng, do you think this might be dangerous?”
“Dangerous? These are just ordinary people. The so-called council members don’t show up here when there’s nothing happening. Besides, Xiao Li has already infiltrated inside. Our job now is to create an opportunity for Xiao Li to steal the corpse.”
“I wish Xiao Zhang were here. Seriously, it’s been days, and we haven’t even managed a single ordinary person.”
“Xiao Zhang called yesterday. He said the target hasn’t appeared on campus recently, and he has no clue where the person went. He’s just been waiting for them.”
“What’s the point of waiting? If we need to know, just capture his roommate and interrogate him.”
“This is Xinxiang. We can’t stir up too much trouble.”
“This isn’t exactly stirring up trouble…”
“Enough, no more questions.” Cheng Ming rubbed his temples, troubled by his two subordinates’ bickering. He wished he had sent different men—at least they wouldn’t be at each other’s throats.
But that was just wishful thinking. Cheng Ming’s operation relied heavily on the unique abilities of his own men. Every move depended on their powers.
Thinking this through, he said, “Xiao Liu, enough talk. Use your strength. Smash that door open.”
Xiao Liu was the designated driver, chosen not just for his driving skills but for his speed-related powers. No matter what obstacles appeared while driving, he was always quick to react and handle them.
Xiao Wang’s power was to transform herself into a metal being. It was odd for a girl to have such an ability, but she was undoubtedly Cheng Ming’s strongest fighter.
On Cheng Ming’s command, Xiao Liu, who had been teasing Xiao Wang moments before, suddenly grew serious. He stepped back and then shot forward instantly.
Although Xiao Liu’s burst seemed slow, everyone was actually seeing afterimages; his real speed was beyond the speed of sound.
As Xiao Liu reached the door, Cheng Ming watched him slowly extend his right hand, gently pointing his index finger at the building’s entrance.
The doors were automatic, designed to open when someone approached a certain spot. But since Xiao Liu and his team were here to cause trouble, they had no intention of letting the doors open and letting security question them. That would lack style.
Hence, Cheng Ming ordered Xiao Liu to act, because his approach was quite… flamboyant.
Xiao Liu’s right hand moved slowly to touch the door, and at that instant, his speed broke the sound barrier.
At the point where his finger touched, the glass began to crack. The sound of shattering glass grew louder and louder until all the windows of the building shattered completely. Glass rained down like droplets, causing screams to echo throughout the street.
Security guards inside immediately saw Xiao Liu’s bold move. They drew their weapons and charged toward him, calling for reinforcements.
The stylish man across the street observed the chaos and remarked, “Quite an interesting ability—to control speed at such a level. Who could they be?”
“Not sure, but judging by appearances, they might be from that nation. It is said that even after the Age of Lawlessness, some powers were preserved there. This must be one of those inherited abilities.”
“That nation… what a pity. If they were not from there, we might have found a way to recruit them as a steward.”
“Lord Faster is right; being a steward of the Silver Dragon is quite an honorable position for someone like that.”
“Lord Faster, look over there.”
“Isn’t that Ayeoke, the third son of the Brest family? What’s the occasion for him coming over to stir up trouble with the Sacred Blood Council today?”
“Lord Faster, do you think the Brest family will come to support the Sacred Blood Council? We heard the second son, Arold, is a vice-chairman there.”
“But you said two of the three vice-chairmen are dead. Could Arold be dead too?”
“Impossible. Arold’s strength is formidable; he has almost no rivals in Xinxiang.”
“Not impossible. Think about it: even our young master, with his invincible defense, was harmed. The Sacred Blood Council must be in trouble. We can’t let this continue. Let’s go down and see for ourselves.”
