Chapter 153: The Choice of the Third Avatar
Watching Ou Xiaolu standing there in a daze, Arrow couldn't help but walk over and take a look. "How is it? Bad luck? Don't worry, you'll pull better next time."
"How can I possibly expect a better pull next time?" Ou Xiaolu said, half-laughing and half-crying. He shared his harvest with Arrow and explained the situation regarding the Sons of the World.
Arrow blinked. "You should sell the Sons of the World. Each one starts at a minimum of 3,000 gold coins. Selling just one will recoup your entire cost."
"What you say makes a lot of sense, and I somehow find myself unable to refute it."
However, the acquisition of the Sons of the World made Ou Xiaolu realize that his luck was still quite decent. The simultaneous appearance of two Sons of the World was surely a hint that he should sacrifice one and use the other as his avatar.
Ou Xiaolu gave it a try, only to discover with great embarrassment that he lacked an altar for the sacrifice. Such an item was of orange quality, and forget about an altar—he didn't even have a blueprint for one.
"What is this nonsense? Does this really mean I have no choice but to pick a protagonist?"
Muttering to himself, Ou Xiaolu began browsing through the protagonist-tier cards. As for the cards below the supporting character tier, he had no intention of sorting through them just yet.
Before long, he found the exact card he wanted among the sixteen protagonist cards.
[Golden-Bladed Prince Consort, Character Card, Protagonist Tier, Combat Power 6179/6179, Possesses Luck Aura, Legendary Palm Technique, Legendary Marksmanship, Natural Affinity, Diligent Talent, and Pure Heart.]
[Note: Protagonist-tier cards can only be possessed for now. Summoning requires the construction of exclusive buildings (such as Prairie Ranches, etc.). Projecting into a world requires meeting the deployment conditions in addition to exclusive buildings (100 units of gold per deployment).]
This was the only card among the sixteen that met Ou Xiaolu's current requirements. At least it fulfilled the several conditions he had set, with the only variable being the talent aspect.
Arrow nodded affirmatively at this. "Talent matters the least; you're definitely going to use the divine corpse later anyway. Temperament doesn't matter much either—I think a pure heart is the best mindset for martial arts training, so this one suits you best. Now, we need to build up his stats in both martial arts and physique so we don't waste such a great card."
Ou Xiaolu voiced his own opinion. "We can discard the legendary marksmanship and natural affinity; those two are useless to me. What I want is innate physical constitution and boundless strength."
"Right, and there's also the world issue. Since this is a protagonist-tier card, a small world would definitely be a waste. At the very least, it needs a medium-sized world. Do you have a suitable one on hand?"
"[World: Sky City] and [World: Underworld City] are the two available options. You said you wanted the Dragon Country, so I'll leave that for you. As for [World: The War of Water and Fire], that's a giant world, and we aren't equipped to participate in it yet."
"Which one are you leaning toward?" Arrow asked after a moment of thought.
"[World: Underworld City]. I even want to use [Item: Evil Smile]." Ou Xiaolu revealed his train of thought.
"Why?" Arrow asked with some curiosity.
"Because his inherent nature is a pure heart. If he walks the path of evil and eventually fights his way out from the realm of wickedness, there is a chance of breaking and then rebuilding—shattering the evil to achieve righteousness."
"That's only a possibility," Arrow shouted loudly.
"This sort of thing relies on luck." Ou Xiaolu said, pointing at a skill on the card: Luck Aura.
Thinking of Ou Xiaolu's surname and looking at the skill on the card, Arrow sighed, "Fine. What about the final card? It has to be at least blue quality; you surely don't intend to pad it out with a blue-quality mystery potion."
"How about [Equipment: Arcane and Flame]? This thing is purple, after all," Ou Xiaolu suggested.
"Absolutely not. You're definitely going to need a magic-type avatar in the future, and this item is reserved for him. Right now, this session is meant to strengthen your physique. Absolutely not."
Seeing how resolute Arrow was, Ou Xiaolu dropped the idea. He pulled out another card instead. "Then what about [Decoration: Twisted Mercury Head]?"
Arrow blinked and blinked, staring blankly for a long time without reacting.
Seeing Arrow's expression, Ou Xiaolu decided not to ask any further. He opened the character interface on his own and clicked the upgrade option.
[Ou Xiaolu, Level: 3, Experience: 390/5000, HP: 500, Mana: 500.]
[Controlled Characters: 30+10, Simultaneously Open Worlds: 9+3.]
[Number of Avatars: 2/3.]
[Guild System unlocked. A Level 1 guild can be established, with a maximum membership limit of 10 people (self and avatars combined count as 1).]
[Note 1: The guild does not need to recruit players; ordinary people can also join. Upon joining the guild, members receive guild reward buffs, and the buff attributes change as the guild level increases.]
[Note 2: A Level 1 guild can open guild quests, a Level 2 guild unlocks the guild mall, a Level 3 guild unlocks the guild world...]
Seeing the suddenly appearing guild system, Ou Xiaolu was momentarily stunned, but he didn't examine the details too closely; he needed to deal with the avatar creation promptly.
After placing [Character: Golden-Bladed Prince Consort], [World: Underworld City], [Item: Evil Smile], [Decoration: Twisted Mercury Head], and [Item: Wandering Divine Corpse] into the avatar generation interface, Ou Xiaolu led everyone back to their newly acquired apartment.
By this time, the Ghost King had already fulfilled his promise to Ou Xiaolu and was about to embark on his own mission. Emilia was full of curiosity and wanted to tag along to take a look.
Ou Xiaolu, however, had no time for sightseeing. He needed to observe the transformation of his avatar, so he went straight to his room to sleep. As for Arrow, she stood guard by Ou Xiaolu's side to prevent any mishaps.
The moment he closed his eyes, Ou Xiaolu felt as though he had transformed into someone else—an ordinary child who grew up herding sheep on the grassland, lagging behind other children in physical growth and bullied for his honesty.
One day, a great army from the grassland swept through and reached his home, and Ou Xiaolu joined their ranks. Within the military, Ou Xiaolu learned a great deal and witnessed even more.
His diligence allowed him to grow rapidly within the army, while his luck continuously brought him better fortunes.
Because of the army's overwhelming dominance, many martial arts masters successively defected and joined them. From them, Ou Xiaolu learned a rather unorthodox martial art—a technique that transformed palms into claws, capable of tearing open an enemy's skull directly. It seemed the more he killed, the stronger his palm force became.
Knowing that his natural talent was inferior to others, Ou Xiaolu relentlessly slaughtered the enemies before him. He grew cold, his entire being suffused with killing intent, until one day, in a certain city, he discovered a rather bizarre corpse. This corpse did not resemble that of a normal person; his palm techniques could not even scratch the slightest bit of it.
Ou Xiaolu halted his slaughter and began to study the corpse, continuing until the leader of the army passed away.
On that very day, Ou Xiaolu received a summons: he was to escort the army leader's soul to the netherworld and establish an underworld city belonging to that army.
Hearing the command, Ou Xiaolu did not hesitate. He took the corpse with him, joined a troop of soldiers clad like unyielding steel, and accompanied the army leader's coffin onto the path leading to the netherworld.
