Chapter 28: Members of the Sacred Blood Council
After the group had walked away, the boy’s blood-red, muscular figure suddenly appeared beside Ou Xiaolu.
“That old man noticed my presence, which is why he left so abruptly. People are getting sharper these days. In the past, it was easy enough to wipe out their three Speakers and twelve senior councilors, but now I have to wait for the right moment—it’s becoming more troublesome.”
Ou Xiaolu stared at the boy in surprise. “When did you come out?”
“I came out when you took down that lower councilor.” The boy shrugged. “Your sword strike was decent. Looks like you’ve mastered swordsmanship.”
“Can you explain what’s going on? I’m still completely confused.”
“How should I put it?” The boy pondered for a moment. “Actually, I was the one who founded the Holy Blood Council. I needed someone to manage my holdings in Xinxiang when I wasn’t available.
Of course, I hate trouble, so to avoid having to replace familiar personnel, I gave them some extra strength. They willingly offered themselves as test subjects—yes, it was entirely voluntary.”
Ou Xiaolu didn’t know what to say about the boy’s reasoning. Yet after thinking it over, he felt that if he were in the boy’s position, he might have made the same choice.
The boy continued, “But once they gained supernatural abilities, they started thinking they were invincible. More and more people wanted to join, and the Holy Blood Council grew increasingly chaotic.
The worst part is, they made up ridiculous council rules, with ranks like Speaker, senior councilor, lower councilor, full member, and peripheral member.
They even decreed that the Speaker must be elected, with four-year terms and only two consecutive terms allowed. It was obviously a move to counter me.
So I simply wiped out the three Speakers, twelve senior councilors, and all my management team.”
“Not a single one left?”
“Not a single one,” the boy replied.
“Well, you’re quite impressive.” Ou Xiaolu felt a deep admiration for the boy’s actions.
“It’s only natural,” the boy said smugly. “I just wanted to show them that what I gave, I can also take away. From then on, the Holy Blood Council was no longer my concern. The rules are still the same, but now the core is made up of those who survived, plus a mix of Xinxiang’s criminal gangs and minor groups.
As for their supernatural abilities, honestly, they’re barely a tenth as strong as the originals. Take the Archbishop, for example—you saw him.
Faced with the same crisis of the End of Magic, he managed to achieve so much just from some of my research notes. It’s clear those other youngsters are hopelessly dull.”
Hearing this, Ou Xiaolu was suddenly struck by an idea. “What if I wiped out all the Holy Blood Council members?”
“Go ahead,” the boy affirmed. “Just let me know when you act. I’ll loan you the Red Cleaners for the mess.”
The Red Cleaners the boy mentioned were those red-robed figures who had appeared earlier; they were his personal team, tasked with erasing traces left by supernatural battles.
When Ou Xiaolu dispatched Harry, the Red Cleaners had demonstrated excellent cleaning abilities.
With the boy’s offer, Ou Xiaolu seriously considered wiping out all the council members. Just by eliminating that so-called lower councilor Harry, he had gained five experience points.
It wasn’t much, but if the Holy Blood Council had around a hundred lower councilors, leveling up twice was well within reach.
Seeing Ou Xiaolu growing more and more excited, the boy laughed happily and said, “Would you like me to provide a list of councilors? Don’t worry, I’ve checked them all—there won’t be any omissions.”
“That won’t be necessary,” came a voice. Senior Brother stepped out of the building. “Take down the weak ones, and the strong ones will come out. That’s an unchanging law. Just wait—a few more Holy Blood Council members will soon come looking for trouble. Deal with them directly.”
“So as you say, if I keep at it, eventually they’ll come begging to you?” Ou Xiaolu glanced at the boy.
The boy shook his head with certainty. “No. Ever since someone tried that thirty years ago and I killed him, no one has dared come to me for help.”
At that moment, Zhong Kui floated out of the building. “No need to beg. It looks like another group of Holy Blood Council members has entered the campus.”
“What’s going on today? Are they having a banquet here?” Senior Brother looked up at the sky. “It’s not even raining—where did the water in their brains come from?”
The boy put his hands behind his back. “There’s nothing stopping them from coming to Shixi Campus. Zhong Kui, can your people find out what they’re here for?”
Zhong Kui nodded. He didn’t leave; he simply tilted his head and listened for a moment, then said, “They’re investigating the cause of Li Ke’s death. They’ve discovered he died in front of the last graffiti and suspect the graffiti is problematic. They’ve brought lots of instruments to study all the graffiti.”
“That lower councilor who replaced Li Ke was probably the advance scout,” Ou Xiaolu’s face changed. “I wonder if it’s their own idea or if someone led them here. My guess is the Earth Veins noticed our actions and wants to break the cycle.”
“Even if they didn’t notice us, they’d still want to break the cycle,” Senior Brother said calmly. “We need to deal with this. We can’t let them disrupt the Archbishop’s preparations.”
Ou Xiaolu looked at the boy. “Is it all right if we act now?”
The boy nodded. “Go ahead. I’ll make a call—no one will care.”
Ou Xiaolu tightened his grip on his sword and dashed toward the campus gate. As he sprang forward, he called out, “Zhong Kui, guide me!”
Zhong Kui flashed to Ou Xiaolu’s side, showing him the way.
Seeing Ou Xiaolu move, Senior Brother didn’t lag behind. He was the main force for this operation. Turning to the boy, he said, “It’s been a long time since I killed Holy Blood Council members. Last time was when you were angry. If I do it this time, do you want their blood?”
“No need. Keep it if you like. Just don’t go overboard.”
“Don’t worry.” Senior Brother replied as he stepped forward.
He didn’t go far, but in that instant, he vanished from the boy’s sight. The boy, accustomed to Senior Brother’s abilities, simply smiled and turned back toward the building.
