Chapter 67: The Great Card Draw, A Stroke of Luck (3/26)
When it came to lucky draws, Ou Xiaolu’s fortune was always quite decent. Among the eleven character cards, there were five minion-level cards, three professional-level, two supporting roles, and even one protagonist-level card.
Of the five minion cards, one turned out to be a Lower Ninja card. Unlike the previous Lower Ninja who wielded a kunai, this one carried a senbon needle. The remaining four consisted of two humans, one humanoid, and one animal.
[Lower Ninja, Character Card, Minion Level, Battle Power 76/76, proficient in Transformation Jutsu, Clone Jutsu, and Substitution Jutsu.]
[Merchant, Character Card, Minion Level, Battle Power 66/66, proficient in Appraisal, Calculation, and Haggling.]
[Thief, Character Card, Minion Level, Battle Power 91/91, proficient in Stealth, Theft, and Lockpicking.]
[Minotaur, Character Card, Minion Level, Battle Power 99/99, proficient in Mighty Strength, Minotaur Charge, and Basic Axe Skills.]
[Lion, Character Card, Minion Level, Battle Power 83/83, proficient in Beast Roar, Pounce, and Pack Tactics.]
All three professional-level cards were humans, precisely the type Booth could use.
[Chef, Character Card, Professional Level, Battle Power 223/223, proficient in Knife Skills, Heat Control, Cooking, and Luminous Cuisine.]
[Detective, Character Card, Professional Level, Battle Power 366/366, proficient in Observation, Detailed Analysis, Information Exchange, and Pharmacological Analysis.]
[Warlock, Character Card, Professional Level, Battle Power 491/491, proficient in Warlock Bloodline, Fireball, Flight, and Blindness.]
Ou Xiaolu believed that, with these three plus a Lower Ninja or perhaps a Merchant, Booth would be well equipped for any situation.
As for the two supporting role cards, they were the real prizes of this draw—a matching pair.
[Red Queen, Character Card, Supporting Role, Battle Power 676/676, proficient in Alchemy, Giantification, Playing Card Soldiers, Heart of Shadows, and Abyssal Crimson Magic.]
[White Queen, Character Card, Supporting Role, Battle Power 666/666, proficient in Alchemy, Restoration, Chess Piece Soldiers, Heart of Light, and Celestial White Magic.]
The final card was a protagonist card—the very first protagonist card Ou Xiaolu had ever drawn, which left him delighted for quite a while. However, he soon realized that the main difference between protagonist and supporting roles lay in battle power: supporting roles ranged from 500 to 5000, while all protagonist cards exceeded 5000.
To this day, Ou Xiaolu still didn’t understand how battle power was calculated, but one thing was certain—it didn’t simply measure fighting ability.
[An Orc, Character Card, Protagonist Level, Battle Power 5508/5508, proficient in Second Demonic Transformation, Legendary Axe Skills, Heroic Aura, Infinite Endurance, Tenacious Heart, and Combat Instinct.]
[Note: Protagonist-level cards can only be possessed for now. To summon them, a dedicated structure (such as a lair or weapons workshop) must be built. To project them into the world, besides the dedicated structure, certain conditions must be fulfilled (e.g., 100 units of meat and 100 units of wine to act once).]
The orc depicted on the card had brown skin, holding a battle axe in one hand and a cup of strange liquid in the other. According to the card, when he drank from the cup, his skin color would change—first turning green, then deep red the second time. Only after each transformation would his true battle power be released; before transforming, he never exceeded a certain threshold. This suggested that battle power was not a simple number but served another purpose.
Compared to character cards, world cards were more straightforward. Among the ten world cards, there were three miniature, three small, two medium, one large, and, unusually, one gigantic.
These worlds varied greatly, but were broadly classified by size.
[Wandering Satellite, World Card, Miniature, 3/3/0. A forsaken celestial body adrift like cosmic dust; only scavengers of space debris venture here, hoping to find something others have left behind.]
[Dragon Palace Beneath the Well, World Card, Miniature, 3/3/0. Enter through a well mouth to reach the legendary Dragon Palace, though in truth, it’s merely the domain of the Well Dragon King, and there’s little of value below.]
[Secret Room, World Card, Miniature, 3/3/0. Rumored to exist somewhere on campus, this secret room hides incredible things and can only be opened at certain times.]
[Haunted Campus, World Card, Small, 6/6/0. Schools are normally for students, but sometimes rumors arise due to strange occurrences. Dealing with the haunting will benefit you greatly.]
[Beneath the Cliff, World Card, Small, 6/6/0. In the world of martial heroes, the bottom of a cliff is a treasure trove—old sages and lost manuals abound. No need to jump this time; you’re already there.]
[Abandoned Research Facility, World Card, Small, 6/6/0. An abandoned research base with unknown experiments. Who knows what remains inside? Go in and see if anything valuable was left behind.]
[Sky City, World Card, Medium, 10/10/1. Whether through technology or magic, people inevitably build cities in the sky once they reach a certain level. This is the nearest Sky City; it’s unknown if anyone lives there. Exploring it is your best option.]
[Netherworld Metropolis, World Card, Medium, 10/10/1. Just as there are cities among the living, so too in the underworld. Be careful not to eat anything—some things aren’t meant for the living.]
[Dragon Kingdom, World Card, Large, 21/21/3. No one ever wondered where dragons live, whether they have their own kingdom, or if wars are waged there. Perhaps this is a realm for true dragons, or maybe just a home for draconic beasts.]
[Battle of Water and Fire, World Card, Gigantic, 42/42/6. One day, water and fire clashed in battle. Join them, and you can master the power of water or fire.]
Of these ten cards, Ou Xiaolu valued [Battle of Water and Fire] the most. He sensed it might transport one to an ancient era, rather than this current age of dwindling magic.
Aro, on the other hand, was drawn to [Dragon Kingdom]; he felt his own path of destiny lay within that realm.
As for the remaining twelve cards, Ou Xiaolu’s luck didn’t hold. He drew six different mysterious potions, ranging from common to rare.
Among the last six cards, three were basic items, useful only as exchange for gold, gems, or other valuables.
The final three were the true highlights of this haul: a chef’s knife, a cultivation manual, and a treasure map.
[Northern Star Wolf Blade (Imitation), Equipment Card, Green. Equip to unleash extraordinary icy culinary skills.]
[Azure Palace Secret Manual, Cultivation Method, Blue. Cultivate this method to ascend to the celestial path, but as this is the age of declining magic, its effects are much diminished—best used as a foundation.]
[National Treasure Map, Item Card, Blue. Unfold this to reveal clues to unclaimed treasures nearby; may be used three times per year.]
