“Think of your gold coins.” Arlo, seeing through Ou Xiaolu’s plan, spoke directly. “You have no money.”

That sentence was like a knife, plunging deep into Ou Xiaolu’s heart. But he had to admit, Arlo was right—he really was out of money.

“Arlo, what do you say we don’t go to the Sun God Design Company just yet? Let’s look around the outskirts of Xinxing and see if there are any ley lines we can take care of.”

“Are you joking?” Arlo shot him a look. “Do you think ley lines are that easy to find?”

“They really are.” Ou Xiaolu pointed out the car window, where a flash of blue light seemed to have just streaked by.

“I hate guys like you who rely entirely on luck,” Arlo grumbled, hugging his paws around his head and refusing to look at Ou Xiaolu any longer.

Ou Xiaolu didn’t mind. After a glance at Arlo, he steered the car toward where the blue light had just flickered.

They hadn’t gone far when Ou Xiaolu spotted a woman hurrying down the road, lugging a large bag. The blue light, surprisingly, was emanating from her.

But this glow was different from Li Qinghao’s, who radiated all sorts of lights from the equipment piled on his body without even realizing it. With this woman, the light came from within her, shining out.

Watching her receding figure, Ou Xiaolu couldn’t help but ask, “Did you see that? That woman—doesn’t she have the air of a protagonist?”

“Female protagonists aren’t like that. As long as they’re pretty, that’s enough. As for main characters, she doesn’t have their aura either. She’s just an ordinary woman, unless you want to chase after her—in which case, I support you.”

“Do I look that shallow?” Ou Xiaolu shot Arlo a look. “Send the Coward out to investigate her. I have a feeling she’s connected to a quest.”

“Not bad, you actually know how to take the initiative now.” Arlo grinned as he sent the Coward out. For gathering information, the Coward was always the best choice.

After the Coward left, Ou Xiaolu drove around the city a bit more. Once he was sure there was nothing else worth their attention, he parked in front of the Sun God Design Company.

As always, bringing Arlo along caused a commotion. The building’s security guards were scared out of their wits, but still rushed out wielding batons and the like.

After Ou Xiaolu assured them that Arlo wouldn’t hurt anyone, the security guards didn’t just let him go; instead, they assigned one of their own to shadow him. According to the guard, if Arlo really went on a rampage, he’d leap in at the first sign of trouble.

Even though the guard was trembling as he said this, it showed that the security in this building was rather diligent. At least they thought things through, and genuinely placed the safety of their clients above all else.

Arriving on the floor rented by Sun God Design Company, the security guard didn’t follow inside, but waited outside. As for whether the people inside would be safe from Arlo, the guard could only pray.

But prayer was of little use. The people inside were already terrified, all huddled together as far from Arlo as possible. No amount of Ou Xiaolu’s explanations could reassure them.

In the end, Ou Xiaolu slammed the table. “Sit down, all of you! What’s the use of being scared now? You need to act unafraid of tigers, because Arlo will be the site supervisor from now on. If you have any problems, you’ll have to talk to him.”

Everyone stared at the tiger’s face with an expression that clearly said, “You must be joking.” Only the wealthy would think to make a tiger a supervisor.

But as Ou Xiaolu had said, if he really did station Arlo at the construction site, they would have no choice but to figure out how to interact with him.

They were just ordinary people, with no courage to face off against a tiger. All they could do was accept it.

Finally, their chief designer took two steps forward, cautiously approaching Arlo. “Mr. Arlo, hello, I’m the chief designer here, my name is Kakarot—nice name, isn’t it? May I ask what you’d like for lunch?”

“Oh, for heaven’s sake!” Before Kakarot had finished, a few other designers dragged him away. “Kakarot, are you out of your mind? Asking a tiger what he wants for lunch—are you trying to thin our numbers?”

“My apologies, everyone,” Ou Xiaolu said with mock disdain. “Our Arlo only eats the finest beef. He doesn’t touch the ordinary stuff.”

At this, Kakarot brightened up. “I knew it! Pets from distinguished families eat things we regular people can’t afford. So, Mr. Arlo, I’ll treat you to a steak some time. I know a place that does a fantastic one.”

At the mention of steak, Arlo’s eyes sparkled. He gave Kakarot an approving nod.

But Kakarot’s focus was elsewhere; he called out loudly, “Look, everyone! What an adorable tiger! Did you see those eyes? They’re as blue as sapphires!”

The others rolled their eyes. That isn’t the point at all—it’s a tiger.

But Kakarot was past caring. He treated Arlo like a lord, saying, “Sir Tiger, where will you be living? Would you like me to design you a custom residence? It won’t be too large—you can live wherever you like.”

Ou Xiaolu’s face darkened. This man really doesn’t treat money seriously, does he? Changing the plans at a whim—does he think my money grows on trees?

But Arlo walked over to the map the designers had drawn, and slapped his paw down on a spot.

Kakarot took a look and exclaimed, “Excellent choice, Sir Tiger! That’s a prime location—perfect for trips to the lake or the mountains. I plan to plant some trees there so the sun won’t get through, making it the ideal home.”

Arlo nodded with satisfaction and tapped the map again.

Kakarot seemed to have an idea. “I understand. I’ll have some rabbit warrens installed there. What do you think, Sir Tiger? Not just a few, either. As for goats and such, they have to be herded back at night—much too troublesome. But rabbits, you can leave them there and eat them any time.”

Ou Xiaolu could stand it no longer. He walked over to Kakarot. “That’s enough—if you go on like this, my place will turn into a zoo!”
