Chapter 131: The Title of the Script
At around eleven o’clock in the evening, Father Ace Graham led a group of people over. Qiu Fengyu hurriedly ushered them into the house. Qiu Fengyu was not a Christian, but there were believers among them, such as Racy, April, and Tim. Davis had already returned home.
These people were all young, bringing their own instruments—guitars, harmonicas, and even a violin. After offering a prayer, they began to sing. They sang with great sincerity, their faces full of smiles. Even Tim, who was usually a bit of a joker, was singing quite earnestly.
Qiu Fengyu did not disturb them and sat to the side, listening. When they finished, Racy and April volunteered to join this caroling group, intending to go from house to house to sing these Christmas songs.
As they were about to leave, the young people headed out first, but Father Ace Graham stayed behind. He beckoned to Qiu Fengyu. Surprised, Qiu Fengyu pointed at himself, a look of confusion on his face.
The priest nodded and beckoned again, so Qiu Fengyu walked over.
"Is there something I can help you with?" Qiu Fengyu asked. "I could offer you some cookies and cakes I baked myself."
"That is not what I am here for, my child," the priest said to Qiu Fengyu in a mystical tone. "The Lord’s embrace is vast and boundless; whether you believe in Him or not, He watches over each of us from the heavens..."
Qiu Fengyu felt a slight headache coming on, but unable to say anything, he could only nod. "I know, I know, God is always there. I have always believed that Jesus is our Savior."
The guy didn't even know how to distinguish between God and Jesus, yet he spoke such grand, hollow words that he didn't even believe himself. The priest shook his head, looked at him, and said, "Find some time. I would like to talk to you at the church. Whether you believe or not, we should have a conversation. All right?"
Qiu Fengyu nodded. "No problem, I'll call you when I have time."
"Do you have my phone number?" the priest asked.
"No!"
"Here is my business card, keep it safe. We must talk another day. Call me; I am always available!" The priest was stubborn, a trait likely formed by his years of missionary work.
"I understand, I definitely will!" Qiu Fengyu nodded, then reached out and gave the priest a firm handshake. "I support your cause, don't worry. We will have a pleasant chat."
The priest finally nodded and turned to leave, continuing to lead the group of young people to sing carols at other homes. Seeing the priest leave, Qiu Fengyu turned to Tim, who had accompanied him to the door. "Is this something that must be done on Christmas Eve?"
Tim nodded. "Yes, at least as far as I know. In the community where I lived, the priest did this every Christmas Eve. I even joined in a few times. You really should embrace the faith. At the very least, when you die, the Lord can forgive all your sins."
"Do you believe that?" After saying this, Qiu Fengyu realized it was a completely pointless question.
"Of course I believe it. So... even after I take down my enemies in the future, I will pray for them. Even if I die, I will pray for God’s forgiveness for myself," Tim said before turning back into the house.
It was past two in the morning when the two women returned. Their faces were flushed, and they looked quite excited. When they entered, Qiu Fengyu was still sitting on the sofa; Tim had already gone to sleep.
"If you hadn't come back, I would have called the police!" Qiu Fengyu stood up.
"This is a very meaningful thing; you shouldn't say that!" April countered regarding the caroling group. "Anything meaningful starts with faith."
"I’m an atheist!" Qiu Fengyu shrugged. "Even after doing this, do you intend to forgive Ryoko Yonekura?"
"No, don't even think about it!" April became agitated immediately.
Qiu Fengyu laughed and headed upstairs.
Early the next morning, on Christmas Day, Racy and April prepared to leave. To be honest, this Christmas had started quite happily, but everything turned sour after Ryoko Yonekura arrived. At least for April, that was the case. Even though they had participated in the caroling the night before, they had no interest in staying any longer.
Qiu Fengyu stood in the yard, watching the two women carry their luggage out, and helped open their car door. This gesture earned him a glare from April.
"Qiu, your behavior is really terrible." After Racy put her luggage in the trunk, she rested one hand on the car door and shook her head at Qiu Fengyu. "Uh... I forgot something. I was going to tell you that I wanted to invite you to the premiere of my new movie, but now... I think I should be a bit more cautious."
"A movie premiere?" Qiu Fengyu nodded. "I’ve never attended one. Although I’d love to go, I... I can understand your decision. After all... I didn't stop what happened yesterday. It’s a pity. Well, I wish you a safe journey. Goodbye, Racy. Hey... April, goodbye!" Qiu Fengyu leaned down and waved at April, who was in the driver's seat.
April remained unmoved, ignoring him. Racy smiled, sat in the passenger seat, and as the car was about to pull away, she leaned out again. "If you don't receive a call from me within a week, then... you're out. Good luck. Personally, I’m still willing to..."
Before she could finish, April stepped on the gas, and the car roared away. April was clearly in a mood; she drove very fast, only avoiding speeding after Racy reminded her several times.
"Are you angry with him?" Racy narrowed her eyes and smiled at April.
"No, I'm not angry with him. He did nothing wrong. I'm angry with myself. Why did I drive so far just to get into a fight with that bitch? It wasn't worth it, really not worth it." April let out a long sigh. "Racy, you aren't actually planning to invite that guy to your premiere, are you?"
"Why not?" Racy said with a giggle. "He's an interesting man. As you said, he has extraordinary skills, he can endure, and he seems as calm as still water when facing beautiful women. Yet, a man like that is also very attentive to women, and he’s an excellent cook..."
"Stop, stop, Racy. You need to get rid of this idea right now. You saw it yourself—he’s cold and ruthless, indifferent to everything. I even suspect... that he doesn't like women." April clearly disagreed with Racy's assessment. "If you keep thinking like that, you'll fall into this man's trap."
"A trap? You mean he's trying to pursue me, and this is just his way of acting cool in front of women?" Racy looked at April, seemingly surprised. "Goodness, you don't even realize how you feel about him, do you?"
"Yes, that's his way of acting cool... What? How I feel about him? Damn it, I'm not some little girl who can't hide her thoughts." April raised her hands and waved them. "I have feelings for him? Ha—that’s hilarious. Yes, absolutely hilarious."
Racy just smiled and stayed silent. The more one denied it, the more it suggested there was an issue. Falling for someone usually manifested as being exceptionally kind to them or constantly finding fault with them—either way, it was about finding an excuse to connect, whether good or bad.
This mindset was easy to understand. Racy understood it, at least. It was just that April was in the middle of it and didn't realize it, so Racy didn't bother to explain. In such matters, the more you said, the worse it got.
Inviting Qiu Fengyu to the premiere was just her way of creating an opportunity for April. She was the only friend and confidante Racy could truly trust. In the world of Hollywood masks, such friendship was rare, so Racy cherished it and genuinely wanted the best for April.
The two drove in silence for a while. Unable to bear it any longer, April glanced at Racy. "You aren't really going to invite him to the premiere, are you?"
"That's the second time!" Racy laughed.
"Fine, if you want to invite him, then do it. But you absolutely cannot appear on the red carpet with him." April warned her. "You can't have any scandals right now, especially not with someone unknown, understand?"
"Then... according to your logic, having him appear with you wouldn't be bad either!" Racy turned to look at April. "You're single, anyway."
"No, absolutely not... fine, whatever you want!" April's first reaction was a flat refusal, but she immediately changed her tone.
Racy shook her head and laughed. They changed the subject, moving from Qiu Fengyu to the script. The script, based on April's personal experiences, had been titled *Jessica Kappa's Longest Month*.
The name was a bit old-fashioned, but it concentrated the main events within a single month, keeping the content compact and the pacing tight. The protagonist, Jessica Kappa, was based on April herself, though the character had been changed to a white woman rather than a Chinese man like Qiu Fengyu.
This was to adapt to market demands and to ensure Qiu Fengyu’s identity wasn't revealed too plainly. April was still worried that her script might bring unnecessary trouble to him. Even the core incident involving the congressman had been modified.
It was a compromise—a compromise between literature and reality, and a compromise against potential future dangers. Of course, this compromise also involved some concessions made at Racy’s request.
The two women left, and the new house returned to its usual tranquility.
