Chapter 114: The Perfect Backstab

Chu Tianfeng found himself oddly captivated by the exquisite ceiling of the Da'an Hotel, its beauty quietly enduring.
“If you meet him, please tell him... we miss him dearly and hope he finds time to visit the academy,” Xu Yan said, then abruptly shook her head. “No, better not. There are already many looking for him there.”
Chu Tianfeng was touched in a subtle way.
“I’ll tell him, but that guy’s heartless; he might not even remember.” Du Jingjing pouted.
“You’re talking about Chu Tianfeng, right?” Chu Tianfeng could no longer hold back. “I’m a friend of his. I was with him just a few days ago.”
If he stayed silent any longer, he feared Du Jingjing would never stop badmouthing him.
“What?” Xu Yan looked at Chu Tianfeng with surprise. “Really?”
Jiang Ziyue glanced at Chu Tianfeng, puzzled, then turned to Du Jingjing.
Du Jingjing folded her arms and rolled her eyes dramatically.
“It’s true,” Chu Tianfeng nodded, pulling two defensive bracelets from his ring. “I overheard your conversation. You must be Xu Yan and Jiang Ziyue. Chu Tianfeng asked me to give you these.”
“Really?” Xu Yan accepted the bracelets, her large eyes shimmering with unshed tears.
“Indeed,” Chu Tianfeng nodded again. “He also wanted me to thank you for saving his life.”
“No, no!” Xu Yan quickly shook her head, tears streaming down. “Where is he?”
Jiang Ziyue hurriedly fetched tissues from her bag and placed them gently in Xu Yan’s palm.
Chu Tianfeng glanced at Du Jingjing and said, “He’s hiding abroad. Don’t look for him anymore; he won’t be back anytime soon.”
For some reason, seeing Xu Yan cry pierced Chu Tianfeng’s heart.
Perhaps it was her innocence and kindness that stirred his protective instincts.
“That’s good,” Xu Yan wiped her tears and slowly fastened the bracelet on her wrist.
“All right,” Du Jingjing clapped her hands beside them. “Liu Feng, aren’t you tired?”
Chu Tianfeng smiled faintly and waved to the two girls. “See you tomorrow.”
“Goodbye!” Xu Yan’s face finally blossomed with a genuine smile, heartfelt and sincere.
“What exactly is that bracelet?” Du Jingjing pouted as soon as the elevator doors closed.
Chu Tianfeng had handed gifts to other girls right in front of her—several at once! Honestly, it irked her deeply, almost making her want to pounce on him.
“A defensive bracelet,” Chu Tianfeng replied casually, oblivious to her expression. “These are all I have left, given them all away. I’ll get you one next time.”
“Oh.” Du Jingjing made a face behind him.
Several bracelets—all gone!
Her irritation grew.
Chu Tianfeng, still unaware, stretched and asked, “Your dad and the others live on the fifth floor too?”
“Yes, we booked four rooms: 514, 516, 518, and 520.” Du Jingjing’s little tiger teeth ground together.
518? Hearing this, a weight lifted from Chu Tianfeng’s heart.
Earlier, Xiya had told him that a Yuan Tian early-stage master was staying in room 518.
So the Yuan Tian early-stage master must be a member of the Du family. Chu Tianfeng need not fear.
After all, he had saved Du Jingjing multiple times and helped her increase her cultivation. Even if the Du family harbored ill intentions, they wouldn’t dare confront him openly.
At that moment, the elevator doors opened again.
Du Jingjing stepped out first, leading Chu Tianfeng forward.
Soon they stopped before a door. Du Jingjing pointed at the number: “This is your room. I’m right next door.”
Chu Tianfeng smiled faintly. “See you tomorrow!”
“See you tomorrow!” Du Jingjing turned and walked toward 518, silently vowing to keep him on his toes.
Chu Tianfeng, oblivious, opened the door and stepped inside.

The door shut with a bang.
Du Jingjing made a face at the door, then took out her key card.
With a soft click, the door opened.
“Dad? Second Grandpa? What... what are you doing here?” To Du Jingjing’s surprise, her room was full of people.
Four men of varying ages.
The leader’s hair was half white, looking about sixty, holding two iron spheres.
This was Du Jingjing’s second grandfather, Du Tiancai.
Next was a middle-aged man, dignified and spirited—Du Jingjing’s father, Du Renzhi.
Two young men, Du Xuan and Du Ming, her cousins, sat by the window playing on their phones. Seeing Du Jingjing’s slightly angry face, one shrugged innocently, the other silently pointed at Du Renzhi.
“Why hasn’t that guy come over?” Du Renzhi’s expression mirrored Du Jingjing’s exactly—utter displeasure.
“He says he’s tired!” Du Jingjing kicked Du Ming lightly. “Move aside; I’m tired too.”
Du Ming looked around, displeased. Seeing no one responded, he sulked away.
“Did you tell him I wanted to see him?” Du Renzhi asked doubtfully.
Du Jingjing plopped into a chair. “Dad, I think it’s because of you that he’s not coming.”
“Hehe!” Du Ming, who had just left, turned back grinning. “Jingjing, just bat him a little flirtatious glance. He won’t know up from down and will come running.”
Du Jingjing glared at Du Ming, her teeth grinding again.
“All right!” Du Ming quickly dropped to his knees. “Sis, I was wrong!”
But Du Jingjing had been holding a lot of anger inside. Finding a scapegoat was a rare relief; she had no intention of letting go easily.
Soon, piercing screams erupted from room 518.
Ah—ah—ah—
The cries rose and fell, full of emotion.
Chu Tianfeng, sitting trembling on the toilet next door, nearly soiled himself.
——————
The next day, to avoid the Du family, Chu Tianfeng got up before dawn and rushed to the parking lot without breakfast.
Perhaps because it was so early, few cars were on the road—only one or two here and there.
Once on the highway, Chu Tianfeng instinctively floored the accelerator and rolled down the window, eager to experience the thrill of flying on his sword early.
Whoosh—
Finally, Chu Tianfeng understood what it meant to be cool.
After about ten minutes, he noticed a Mercedes G-Class ahead—identical in color.
He flicked on the passing light and gently tapped the gas, roaring past the G-Class.
Unexpectedly, as soon as he overtook, the car behind blared its horn furiously and flashed its high beams at his rear nonstop.
Frowning, Chu Tianfeng pressed down harder and sped forward.
Seeing Chu Tianfeng ignore him, the other driver got angry and gave full throttle, roaring after him.
Chu Tianfeng had no desire to compete and kept his speed on the passing lane.
The other car was faster and soon overtook him.
The driver’s window slid down slowly, revealing a black arm and a single extended finger—
The middle finger, raised high and straight.
Chu Tianfeng was annoyed and about to unleash his spiritual awareness when Xiya’s cheerful voice came from his consciousness: “There are five people in that front car. One is a Yuan Tian early-stage master. If you capture his soul for me to absorb, I promise to serve you forever after I revive.”
Chu Tianfeng rolled his eyes.
He felt his luck had hit rock bottom. Yuan Tian masters were said to be extremely rare, yet he had encountered three in just over ten days.
With a Yuan Tian early-stage expert leading them, Chu Tianfeng dared not act rashly.
Feigning deafness and blindness, he ignored the horn and the obscene gesture.
When you can’t win, you hide.
He eased off the gas and moved over to the driving lane.
But the front car seemed unwilling to relent.
It stayed pressed in front of him. When Chu Tianfeng moved to the driving lane, it followed to the right lane. When he switched to the left lane, it darted to the passing lane.
Not only that, it occasionally braked sharply in front of him, the screeching tires testing his nerves.
Despite this, Chu Tianfeng restrained himself, avoiding conflict.
He figured the other would tire and give up after a few minutes.
Unexpectedly, the front car seemed addicted, continuing its erratic braking and swerving to provoke him.
Unable to bear it, Chu Tianfeng seized a moment when the car swerved and suddenly jerked the steering wheel while flooring the accelerator—zoom! He shot past again.
The other car went wild!
It chased Chu Tianfeng madly, honking and flashing lights incessantly.
Chu Tianfeng ignored it, pressing the gas to the floor, engaging in a game of speed and thrill.
“Careful, someone’s pulling out a gun behind you,” Xiya warned.
Furious, Chu Tianfeng glanced in the rearview mirror at the crazed G-Class and hatched a plan.
He swerved to the left lane and slammed the brakes hard—screech—
The car behind couldn’t stop in time and crashed right in front of Chu Tianfeng.
He released the brake and hit the gas, steering the car hard into the left rear corner of the G-Class.
Boom!
The G-Class was forced off the right lane, barreling toward the guardrail.
Another crash!
The G-Class tore through the guardrail and flew off the highway, crashing into the roadside fields, immobilized.
A perfect wreck!
This was Chu Tianfeng’s first face-to-face encounter with a Yuan Tian master.
It was a decisive victory.
From this battle, Chu Tianfeng realized these Yuan Tian masters had weak spiritual awareness and couldn’t skillfully coordinate it with their true essence.
But he didn’t let the victory go to his head. Knowing the opponent had a Yuan Tian master in the car, he assumed they wouldn’t be seriously injured.
He didn’t stop to check the damage—just floored the accelerator and fled.
Sure enough, not far away, gunshots rang out behind him.
In the rearview mirror, Chu Tianfeng saw five men lined up by the roadside. One short young man held a pistol, firing repeatedly at him.
A white-haired elder, presumably the Yuan Tian master, shouted angrily at Chu Tianfeng’s car.
Chu Tianfeng ignored them and pressed the gas, speeding toward Peach Blossom Town.
About half an hour later, the car left the highway and entered a provincial road.
Then it began climbing steadily.
After another half hour, Chu Tianfeng suddenly spotted a roadside sign with three bold characters: Peach Blossom Valley.
