Chapter Eighty-Seven: Will You Come, Hero?

The threat! A blatant, undisguised threat!

Yet Chu Tianfeng paid it no mind. Instead, he smiled and waved at Duan Rui, looking every bit like a man who had nothing to fear.

The Mount Huang Sect already bore old grudges against him; one more or one fewer made no difference. Besides, these spirit stones were far too important to him. A mere Mount Huang Sect was probably not enough to frighten him.

Without the slightest doubt, this batch of spirit stones was taken by Chu Tianfeng once again.

After that came the fourth item, the fifth item... and so on, until the eleventh lot, all of them were spirit stones. Except for one bid from Long Fei, every single one was seized by Chu Tianfeng.

He truly did not wish to compete with Long Fei. In any case, he had already obtained more than enough spirit stones, enough, he believed, to break through to the seventh level of the Qi Refining stage.

These spirit stones had been won in successive contests against the Mount Huang Sect, the Hengshan Sect, the Mount Hua Sect, the Azure Cloud Gate, the Wang family of number eight, the Feng family of number six, and several other sects and clans. In the process, Chu Tianfeng had thoroughly offended them all and successfully made six enemies.

Soon, the twelfth lot was brought out.

Chu Tianfeng had intended to rest a while and, in doing so, ease the hatred the major sects held for him.

But when he clearly saw the item on the square table, his passion was ignited once more.

Heartfire Lotus! The indispensable primary ingredient for refining Foundation Establishment Pills!

What more was there to say? Take it!

Though he was still some distance from Foundation Establishment, there was an old saying: prepare while the sun is still shining, and do not wait until thirst overcomes you to dig the well.

He could not possibly wait until he had reached the pinnacle of Qi Refining before searching for Foundation Establishment Pills. What if, by then, none could be found?

“The Earth King Gall, after being boiled into pills, can be used to break through to the Innate stage,” Chen Jian said, holding up the Heartfire Lotus in his hand. “Starting bid, five million. Each increase must be no less than one million.”

The Earth King Gall was presumably the name for the Heartfire Lotus on Earth, and Chu Tianfeng was already used to such things.

“Six million!” Long Fei was the first to bid.

Chu Tianfeng found it inconvenient to compete with him, so he simply folded his arms and waited for the show.

“Seven million! This Earth King Gall belongs to my Wang family!” Sure enough, the Wang family of number eight once again went head-to-head with Long Fei.

Chu Tianfeng was waiting for exactly this kind of chance, and immediately shouted, “Twenty million!”

Boom!

The hall erupted once more, and the martial artists began whispering among themselves.

“That idiot is at it again!”

“Damn it, tonight he’s bought the whole house.”

“Who is this guy? He’s got some nerve.”

...

Chu Tianfeng acted as if he heard nothing, calmly watching Chen Jian on the dais.

The assembled martial artists were already accustomed to his style. They knew he was a madman: once he made a move, he would never give up until he got what he wanted.

Of course, not every martial artist feared Chu Tianfeng. For example, the young man from the Wang family of number eight did not.

He raised his bidding placard again. “Twenty-one million!”

Chu Tianfeng showed no weakness. “Thirty million!”

That Heartfire Lotus was as large as a porcelain rice bowl, a rare sight even on Blue Moon Star. Though its medicinal power had been somewhat diminished by poor preservation, it was still excellent, worth at least several hundred thousand spirit stones. Thirty million yuan was, at most, only the price of one tiny corner of it.

“Hmph, forty million. If you’ve got the guts, try fifty million!” The young man from the Wang family glared at Chu Tianfeng.

“Fifty million!” Chu Tianfeng replied without the slightest courtesy. When one has the righteousness, one does not yield.

He had once been publicly humiliated by Tan Jiyuan of the Grave-Robbers Sect for a mere ten thousand yuan. Now, at long last, he had a chance to play the tycoon, and of course he wanted to taste the feeling of being rich.

“Very well! Friend, I, Wang Lianchang, remember you!” Wang Lianchang from the Wang family said through clenched teeth.

Long Fei, meanwhile, burst out laughing.

“Laughing, are you? Your friend has offended so many people tonight. I’m afraid they won’t let him off easily,” Long Yue said anxiously.

She also thought Chu Tianfeng looked like a madman, one who dared offend anyone.

“Don’t worry. Didn’t you see how calm he is? Maybe his sect elders will come to back him up,” Long Fei said indifferently.

He knew Chu Tianfeng a little and understood that he was not the impulsive sort.

Since Chu Tianfeng was so calm, he must have some plan for getting away. Long Fei had no desire to fret over such things.

“Mother, who is that?” asked a masked young woman in the number six Feng family’s group, speaking to Feng Piaopiao.

Feng Piaopiao’s brows were tightly furrowed. “I’m not sure. If he is not from the Long family, then he likely has deep ties to them.”

“This man is far too arrogant. Whether he can leave Li Family Gorge tonight is still unknown,” a hoarse voice said beside Feng Piaopiao.

“Sister Xiu is right. I don’t know how someone so reckless has lived to be this old,” Feng Piaopiao agreed.

Chu Tianfeng had no idea that countless people in the hall were hoping for his death, cursing him to die.

He only knew that he had won again.

After happily putting away the Heartfire Lotus, Chu Tianfeng looked back toward the dais, waiting for the thirteenth lot.

So far, aside from the luminous pearl he had personally provided, every item at auction had been a true treasure to him. His confidence had thus soared, and he looked forward all the more to the treasures yet to come.

His only regret was that he should not have kept the water-avoiding pearl. If he had put that up for auction as well, he would have had even more funds and could have secured more treasures.

But when the wooden box on the square table was opened, Chu Tianfeng could not help but feel deeply disappointed.

The thirteenth lot was actually a necklace!

Chu Tianfeng had quite a few such treasures in his ring. Back when he had raided Sima Lin’s lair, he had obtained many pieces of jewelry.

“The thirteenth item is a hand-crafted diamond necklace. It contains one blue diamond, ten red diamonds, and the rest are colorless diamonds. Starting bid, twenty million. Each increase must be no less than one million,” Chen Jian announced loudly.

Twenty thousand would be more like it, Chu Tianfeng muttered inwardly. Such a thing had no value to him at all. Buying one for twenty thousand just to play with would at least be passable.

Of course, not everyone thought like Chu Tianfeng. Number two hundred and fifty was the most prominent among them!

“One hundred million!” That fellow hardly blinked before raising the bid straight to one hundred million!

Boom!

The hall was in an uproar again.

The martial artists almost wanted to act together and throw number two hundred and fifty out.

Chu Tianfeng had finally quieted down for a moment, and everyone had hoped to take part in a proper auction for once. To their surprise, number two hundred and fifty jumped out to spoil the fun again. This was more than anyone could bear.

Thus, Wang Lianchang of number eight wasted no time and taught number two hundred and fifty a lesson on everyone’s behalf. “One hundred and ten million!”

Number two hundred and fifty glanced at Wang Lianchang, then shrank back onto his cushion in gloom, not daring to make another sound.

“One hundred and twenty million!” Long Fei, unwilling to be left out, once again began trading blows with Wang Lianchang.

“One hundred and thirty million!” Wang Lianchang shot Long Fei a resentful glare.

Long Fei lifted his hand, about to bid again, but Long Yue beside him acted in time, pressing his hand down. “Why are you fighting over this with such a person? Do you have too much money and nowhere to spend it?”

Long Fei snorted heavily and turned away, no longer looking at Wang Lianchang.

“Young Master Fei, keep going! Come on, be a hero!” Wang Lianchang continued to provoke him.

Laughter rolled through the hall, and the martial artists all waited to see the two sides tear into each other.

Hearing the ridicule in the hall, Long Fei truly could no longer hold back. But with Long Yuanhua and Long Yue repeatedly restraining him, he could only force himself to endure and lower his head like an ostrich.

In the end, the necklace still went to Wang Lianchang. Yet after obtaining it, he did not put it away. Instead, he carried it directly toward the people of the number six Feng family.

“Miss Mingxue, this necklace suits you very well. I’m giving it to you, and I hope you like it,” Wang Lianchang said to one of the Feng family members.

Chu Tianfeng could only see the back of the person, not the face, but he felt that Feng Mingxue should be a woman. Her figure was slender and graceful, and that was all.

“Mingxue is not worthy of such a generous gift from Young Master Chang. Please take it back,” Feng Piaopiao answered first.

“Lady Piao, this is a token of my sincerity. Please do not take offense,” Wang Lianchang said, sounding quite earnest.

Chu Tianfeng now more or less understood that Wang Lianchang was at odds with Long Fei, much as he himself was with Peng Yongliang. However, Wang Lianchang was truly sinister, actually trying to draw the Feng family in to trample on Long Fei together with him. That was hardly honorable.

Thinking of Peng Yongliang, Chu Tianfeng’s mind filled with questions. That brat had kept his phone off for quite some time, to the point that Chu Tianfeng sometimes could not even find someone to speak on his behalf.

“Young Master Chang, we still need to take part in the auction. Please conduct yourself properly,” Feng Piaopiao said, likely seeing through Wang Lianchang’s ill intent, and directly issued him an order to leave.

Wang Lianchang had no choice but to return sulkily to the Wang family’s group.

Throughout it all, Long Fei watched Wang Lianchang’s performance with deep resentment, his lips nearly bitten to the point of bleeding.

The auction continued.

The next dozen or so items were all jewelry, and Chu Tianfeng had no interest in any of them.

But number two hundred and fifty was exactly the opposite; his interest was extremely high.

Chu Tianfeng therefore looked at him a few more times.

He was a young man in his thirties, with a square face, short eyebrows, and wearing a light-colored short-sleeved T-shirt with dark trousers.

There were many of them, perhaps seven or eight in all.

He took part in the bidding for nearly every item and was always the first to make a bid.

Unfortunately, his success rate was pitifully low. The jewelry he fancied was usually snatched away by those major sects.

Most of the time, Chu Tianfeng kept his eyes on his nose and his nose on his heart, slowly circulating his cultivation art and guiding the small heavenly cycle.

Only when lot thirty-one appeared did he slightly open his eyes.

It was a type of spiritual herb, Silverlight Root, one of the herbs required for a certain Foundation Establishment pill formula. It generally grew at higher altitudes and was relatively rare.

There were five stalks in total, each as thick as a thumb, clearly of considerable age.

The only flaw was that they had been picked for too long and were poorly preserved, causing some loss of medicinal potency.

“Jade Beard Root. When boiled into a medicinal liquid, it can promote the cultivation of martial artists at all postnatal stages. Five stalks in total. Starting price, five hundred thousand. Each increase must be no less than one hundred thousand,” Chen Jian said unhurriedly.

“Two million!” Chu Tianfeng directly threw out a high bid.

The martial artists could not help but complain once again at the sight of this.

Complaints aside, they still had to admit defeat.

They knew Chu Tianfeng’s style: once he made a move, he never left empty-handed.

Trying to wrestle things from him was simply inviting frustration.

Duan Rui, Ge Huawen, Huang Zonghan, Qian Sifang, Yu Xianze, and the others were all unwilling, but they had to admit that this number one hundred and nine truly did not lack money.

For spirit stones worth only a little over a million at most, he was willing to pay two million or even three million. That Earth King Gall, worth no more than twenty million, this fellow had likewise taken at the high price of fifty million.

After several rounds of bidding, the assembled martial artists came to one conclusion: number one hundred and nine was not only rich, he was also sick in the head, a fool lacking a critical screw, with intelligence that left much to be desired.

Almost all the martial artists believed Chu Tianfeng would never leave Li Family Gorge, and therefore none of them wanted to fight him for anything.

However, not every sect thought the same, such as Feng Piaopiao of number six.

“Two hundred and ten thousand!” Feng Piaopiao was purely testing the waters, first to see Chu Tianfeng’s determination, and second to verify his intelligence once more.

Chu Tianfeng clearly could not resist being provoked. Without the slightest hesitation, he casually threw out an outrageous price: “Three hundred thousand!”

Feng Piaopiao could only roll her eyes white, feeling as though a ghost had seized her throat.
