“Hoo...”

The wind rushed past his ears.

Lu Fei stepped onto the black cloud—no, the black mist—heading straight toward the silhouette of the Wolf Commander ahead.

He couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe in his heart.

Flying was the dream of countless people on Earth.

Lu Fei was no exception.

He had dreamed of soaring through the sky many times before.

Now, the dream was realized.

Just for the ability to fly, Lu Fei was undoubtedly the envy of many, especially men.

However, for monsters, flying was commonplace. As long as one advanced to the rank of Demon General, all monsters could fly.

It simply required proficient use of demon power: lifting oneself or wrapping oneself up, and one could take flight.

Of course, this was the most basic, crude, and instinctive way to fly.

There were limitations. First, it wasn’t possible to fly very high, and second, the speed was limited.

Lu Fei estimated that with his current flying skill and speed, it was still a bit slower than his full-speed running.

Moreover, since this flight relied entirely on demon power, taking to the air meant constant consumption of his own energy. Compared to that, running on the ground was clearly more efficient.

Still, flying had flair; it was a display of strength.

Unless absolutely necessary, Lu Fei wouldn’t worry about expending a bit of demon power.

Besides, if he could fly, he would never walk.

This was the true unfolding of a world of immortals and heroes.

This was the driving force behind his relentless cultivation and ambition, even as a monster.

“Wait for me, Commander…”

Seeing the leader’s figure growing more distant, Lu Fei quickly accelerated to catch up.

Before long, Lu Fei followed the Wolf Commander to the mountaintop.

Compared to the summit he had seen two months ago, the scene before him had changed considerably.

A great many trees had been felled, large swathes of the mountainside leveled and reshaped, and even a proper pavilion had been built.

Not far away, the stone cave where the Black General resided now had new characters engraved on the doorstone, changing from “King’s Cave” to “General’s Cave.”

“The storeroom is this way…”

Following the Wolf Commander’s lead, Lu Fei soon arrived in front of a stone cave guarded by several small monsters.

“Greetings, Commander…”

---

The small monsters guarding the cave immediately saluted the Wolf Commander, but when they saw the unfamiliar Lu Fei, one of the long-term guards hesitated only briefly before calling out, “Greetings, Leader…”

The Wolf Commander ignored their greetings and pushed open the thick stone door, stepping inside.

Lu Fei, addressed as leader for the first time, felt nothing particular and followed closely behind into the storeroom.

“Hey, none of us have seen that white wolf before, how did you know it was a leader?” whispered one of the guards outside.

The bowing guard replied, “Besides us, no other monsters have the privilege to come to the storeroom.”

“If the Commander brought someone here, it must be a leader. That white wolf is definitely a leader, just one we haven’t met before…”

Lu Fei was unaware of the guards’ conversation outside.

He followed the Wolf Commander into the storeroom.

Now he finally saw what a monster’s armory looked like.

He glanced around—knives, sabers, spears, swords, iron hammers, iron rods, spiked clubs, axes. All sorts of weapons were present, casually arranged.

Lu Fei even spotted long halberds.

The range of weapons was vast.

But armor and protective gear were notably sparse.

From what Lu Fei could see, there were only two complete sets with chest and leg plates.

The rest were scattered pieces—chest plates, arm guards, and leg guards—few in number.

Judging by the materials, most were simply made of iron.

Looking at it all, Lu Fei’s hopes of the Black General rewarding him with a magical artifact—even a low-level one—were dashed.

These ancient cold weapons were the reality.

“Choose.”

Seeing Lu Fei staring intently at the array of weapons, the Wolf Commander assumed he was dazzled and said, “According to the rules, you can pick one weapon and one suit of armor.”

“You have time to choose carefully; pick what suits you best.”

Upon hearing this, Lu Fei stopped daydreaming and began to select in earnest.

Most of these weapons were genuine iron-forged blades, not the crude wooden spears with iron tips he’d used before.

He guessed the Black General might have plundered a human martial arts school or an armory.

Yet, holding an iron-shafted spear, Lu Fei began to doubt his guess.

A solid iron spear was not something ordinary people could wield.

Regardless of their origin, these weapons were easily harmful to small monsters in their original forms.

As for the leaders…

Lu Fei reckoned they’d be similarly affected.

---

After all, the monsters wielding these weapons were immensely strong, but none had cultivated to the point of being impervious to blades and arrows.

Looking at the weapons before him, a thought arose in Lu Fei’s mind.

Were the monsters of Wolf Mountain simply too poor, or were magical artifacts just that precious?

That even monsters as powerful as Demon Generals were rewarded with ordinary iron weapons.

With his current strength, Lu Fei could easily sweep through a human settlement—like the fortress village at the foot of Wolf Mountain.

He even felt bold enough to try his hand in some towns.

After some thought, he concluded that magical artifacts were indeed rare, but poverty among the monsters under the Black General was likely the main cause.

It was simply his fate not to transmigrate to a better place.

Shaking his head, Lu Fei put the matter aside and focused on picking his weapons.

He tried out each one, swinging them in turn.

He found that short blades and swords, popular as they were, felt too light. Hammers, axes, and spiked clubs didn’t suit his taste.

He narrowed it down to the spear, the long saber, and the iron rod.

He eliminated the iron rod first—he wasn’t Sun Wukong and couldn’t wield such a weapon.

Finally, between the spear and the long saber, he gave it serious thought. Given that his future enemies would mostly be other Demon Generals, Lu Fei chose the spear, noted for its concentrated power and ability to pierce defenses.

For armor, he was practical and selected the set that looked the most agreeable.

Seeing Lu Fei had made his choices, the Wolf Commander, who’d been silent all along, suddenly stepped forward, pressed a finger to Lu Fei’s forehead, and said, “You’re in luck; I’ll give you this.”

As he finished speaking, Lu Fei felt a surge of information about spear techniques appear in his mind.

“Thank you, Commander.”

Realizing the value of the spear techniques, Lu Fei bowed respectfully.

“It’s just luck. Come, your troops are waiting for you.”

The Wolf Commander, having imparted the technique, turned and headed out.

Lu Fei hurriedly stowed his weapon and armor in his storage space and followed.

Before long, the Wolf Commander led Lu Fei to an open area, pointed to five timid small monsters, and said, “These are your troops.”

“White Wave, from now on, you are the tenth leader of Wolf Mountain.”
