Main Peak.

In a clearing near the summit.

After giving Lu Fei his instructions, the wolf commander departed on his own.

Left behind, Lu Fei found himself momentarily stunned as he looked at the five small demons before him.

Strictly speaking, Lu Fei had been in this world for nearly half a year. He had wandered across several mountains and encountered countless monsters of all kinds.

Yet, to find these five assembled together by chance was truly a rarity.

First, among the five, the one with a bull's head was a yellow ox demon—quite ordinary. Ox demons were plentiful, large in size, and strong, making them excellent subordinates.

The second was less common—a pheasant demon, wild with a crest of brilliant red, green, black, white, and yellow. Though not tall, the vibrant colors made the pheasant demon impossible to miss.

The third, a yellow leopard demon covered in spots, was also uncommon among demonkind. Finally, a carnivorous beast among the lesser demons, which pleased Lu Fei greatly.

The fourth surprised him, for it was a wild donkey demon. As far as he knew, there hadn’t been a donkey demon in the whole Langlang Mountain demon clan, and this one was sizable, nearly as large as the ox demon. Lu Fei was equally pleased.

As for the fifth and last, this subordinate was the most unexpected of all.

Lu Fei, and likely most other monsters, had never seen its kind before. Even those who had surely wouldn’t recognize it at first glance.

This little demon stood nearly a meter tall, its body covered in glossy black, armor-like plates. Its head was similarly encased in a black shell, which appeared even harder. Two enormous black compound eyes, a pair of long antennae, a mouth filled with jagged fangs, and two sharp, fierce, curved black mandibles flanked its jaws.

Lu Fei guessed that any monster would be momentarily dumbfounded upon seeing this creature, for none would recognize it.

Yet, after only a brief pause, Lu Fei realized what stood before him. He had seen such a fearsome form before—a depiction of an ant, magnified a thousandfold.

Thus, he was certain: the fifth little demon before him was, astonishingly, an ant that had attained spirit, an ant demon.

Lu Fei couldn’t help but marvel—he had truly broadened his horizons.

“I suppose the general and the great commander have already explained things to you all...”

After a moment’s sigh, Lu Fei collected himself and addressed the five little demons. “From now on, I am your leader. You can all understand me, yes?”

“Yes...”

“We understand, leader...”

“...”

All five nodded at once.

Their eyes were a mix of timidity, curiosity, and anticipation.

“Good...”

Lu Fei nodded, then pointed to the yellow ox demon standing at the head of the line. “Let’s start with introductions. You first.”

The yellow ox demon replied, “Reporting, leader, my name is Da Han. I’m a yellow ox turned demon. My family lives in...”

Da Han rambled on at length, but Lu Fei didn’t interrupt. He glanced at the remaining demons and said, “This will be your home from now on. Keep it simple—just state your names.”

“Continue...”

The pheasant demon, second in line, piped up, “Reporting, great king—no, reporting, leader, my name is... my name is... reporting, leader, I don’t have a name yet!”

Lu Fei observed the nervous pheasant demon and replied, “Understood. I’ll give you a name in a moment.”

“Next...”

The leopard demon spoke up quickly, “Reporting, leader, I have many spots on my body, so I named myself Spot. Isn’t that a good name...?”

Seeing the leopard demon’s confidence, Lu Fei nodded approvingly. “It’s very fitting.”

“Next...”

With the leader’s prompting, the wild donkey demon tore his gaze from the leopard, as if inspired by something, and said, “Reporting, commander, my name is Madman. I like the wind...”

“Mm, that’s a good name—very creative...”

Lu Fei easily saw that the donkey, named Madman, was inspired by the leopard’s example.

Not only was this group an odd assembly, but their names were all quite unique.

Lu Fei couldn’t help but sigh inwardly, “What a collection of eccentric talents I’ve gathered here...”

Finally, he turned to the black-armored ant demon. “And you?”

The ant demon looked up. “Reporting, leader, my name is Black Fang.”

Hearing this, Lu Fei nodded. At last, a normal name.

“Follow me...”

He was about to lead the five little demons to meet the Crow Monster and Redskin, intending for them to learn some experience and rules of the mountain from the older demons, when he noticed the pheasant demon gazing at him expectantly with those colorful feathers.

He remembered his earlier promise to grant a name and pondered for a moment.

Suddenly, a thought flashed through his mind. Given the likes of Spot the Leopard, Madman the Donkey—since they were all rare talents, why not keep the theme? He looked up at the pheasant demon and said, “You’ll be called ‘Kun’.”

“Kun...”

“My name is Kun...”

“Heh, I have a name now...”

“I’m Kun...”

The pheasant demon, a little excited, began to boast quietly to his companions.

Lu Fei watched, his expression unchanged. “All right, follow me. I’ll introduce you to your other companions.”

“They’ll tell you what you need to do next...”

With that, Lu Fei turned and headed down the mountain.

The five little demons hurried after him.

As the sun climbed to its zenith,

The Crow Monster, clutching a branch laden with ripe golden wild fruit, descended from the sky to where Redskin and Yellow Noble were gathered halfway up the mountain.

Yellow Noble asked, “Have you seen Big Brother?”

The Crow Monster shook his head. “No...”

Yellow Noble asked again, “What do you think Big Brother is doing with the commander?”

Again, the Crow Monster shook his head. “How would I know...”

“Probably off collecting something,” Redskin said, popping a yellow fruit into his mouth. “I heard the general tell Big Brother to go fetch something earlier...”

He had not finished speaking when the sharp-eyed Crow Monster pointed excitedly at a tall white figure on the mountain path. “Big Brother’s back!”

Redskin and Yellow Noble turned at once—not only did they see Big Brother, but also five unfamiliar little demons trailing behind him.

“Have you seen any of those little demons with Big Brother before?” Redskin narrowed his eyes at the newcomers and asked.

“No, never...” Yellow Noble shook his head.

“Me neither...” Crow Monster shook his head as well. “Let’s go ask.”

The three demons hurried forward.

Soon, the two groups met.

The Crow Monster, a little nervous, asked, “Big Brother, who are these fellows?”

Sensing their unease, Lu Fei smiled. “The wolf commander assigned these local little demons to my command—they’re all new to the mountain and know nothing.”

“Perfect. I’ll leave teaching them the rules and customs of Langlang Mountain to you...”

Teaching new demons?

At this, Crow Monster’s eyes lit up. “Don’t worry, Big Brother—leave it to me...”

Lu Fei nodded, then turned to the eager Yellow Noble. “No need to worry, I’ll go to your deer demon leader and get you transferred here. You know where he lives?”

Yellow Noble beamed and nodded rapidly. “I know, Big Brother...”

“Good...” Lu Fei nodded again, then said to Redskin, “We’ll discuss everything else when I return.”

With that, black mist began to swirl at his feet. Grabbing the scrawny Yellow Noble, Lu Fei said, “Lead the way...”
