Chapter 153: I Am a Dragon!
To descend from this solitary peak, aside from relying on the power of the giant roc, Qin Fei actually had a few other methods.
One of them was using the accessory from Terraria known as the Cloud in a Bottle.
By utilizing the double-jump skill granted by the Cloud in a Bottle, Qin Fei only needed to trigger the item right before hitting the ground, which would grant him an upward force.
This force would forcefully counteract his free-fall state, ensuring that he suffered no fall damage whatsoever.
Since it was a magical item, its effects completely defied the laws of basic physics.
Yet theoretically, this method should succeed.
The second method was to use a glider—an item Qin Fei had acquired from the world of Ark—to quickly glide down the mountain.
The Pigman Kingdom possessed iron ore, meaning the glider had become usable ever since Qin Fei arrived in this world.
As long as the glider remained undamaged during the flight and avoided colliding with any obstacles, Qin Fei should also be able to land safely.
Of course, these items were only successful in theory.
Whether accidents would occur during actual usage remained hard to tell.
After all, this involved jumping from a height of over a thousand meters; even the slightest brush or scrape against something could result in instant death.
Given Qin Fei's cautious nature, he would never risk his life using these methods to descend unless absolutely necessary.
Qin Fei remembered that in the game, there should be a hidden cave entrance near the nest of the 'Friendly Roc,' through which players could access the temple....
He began to wander around the vicinity.
If he could find another path to safely walk down this solitary peak, that would naturally be the best possible outcome.
Unlike the game's settings, however, on this mountain peak—let alone caves—Qin Fei could not even find a single blade of grass.
This shouldn't be right....
Qin Fei felt somewhat perplexed.
Although there would inevitably be some discrepancies between games and reality.
Even so, most of the scenery, maps, and hidden passages in the game—the most basic elements—should not change.
Unless....
A flash of inspiration struck Qin Fei, and he suddenly thought of a possibility: he had arrived much too early!
The time period when he transmigrated into the Don't Starve world was before Wilson and the rest of the protagonist group ever reached this place!
At this time, the underground caves beneath the solitary peak were most likely not yet fully formed... or rather, their internal spaces had long since existed, but they simply hadn't expanded close to the surface yet.
Caves were gradually formed through the long-term 'dissolution' effects of underground streams, air, and other factors over countless years.
The general sequence of their formation was from the depths of the earth upward toward the surface.
Because it was too early in time, this 'dissolution' phenomenon had not yet spread near the surface... hence why Qin Fei failed to detect the exact location of the cave beneath the peak!
Of course, this was merely a guess on his part.
To verify his hypothesis, Qin Fei retrieved an iron hammer from his backpack.
He bent down, tapping the surrounding rock ground with the hammer while listening intently to the impact sounds.
If the ground was hollow underneath, the resulting sound would be full and crisp. Solid ground, on the other hand, would produce a heavy and dull thud.
In this manner, Qin Fei could easily determine whether or not an underground passage existed beneath this solitary peak!
The entire solitary peak was vast in area, and surveying the whole summit would definitely be impossible to accomplish in a short time.
It would require a significant amount of time.
Over the time that followed, Qin Fei, Xie Nainai, and the Caesar Pig took turns stepping up. Each would hammer for a while, and when tired, they would switch to the next person.
While searching for the underground cave, Qin Fei carried the five stone eggs out of the bird's nest, lit a campfire outside the nest, and began roasting the eggs.
He remembered that among these five stone eggs, one of them seemed capable of hatching into a small bird.
That was a Chester.
Its internal storage space was immense... when this creature opened its mouth, players could even store their items directly inside its body.
The method for hatching these stone bird eggs was also very simple; it only required keeping them in a high-temperature environment continuously.
And lighting a fire was undoubtedly the easiest way to maintain warmth.
In his search for the cave hidden beneath the summit, Qin Fei spent a full day hammering away at the peak. At the same time, those five stone eggs roasted by the campfire for an entire day as well.
Four of the five stone eggs showed almost no reaction under the roasting of the flames.
As for the remaining egg, after a whole day of heating, its surface had become exceptionally crimson.
Not only that, under the effect of the high temperature, its volume had also expanded to nearly four or five times its original size, reaching a height of over two meters.
As this stone egg grew increasingly red, cracks began to gradually appear across its surface.
Qin Fei squatted down beside the stone egg.
This egg must be about to hatch....
Xie Nainai seemed quite interested in this kind of affair; after tossing the iron hammer to the Caesar Pig, she also squatted down beside the giant egg.
*Crack!*
As the cracks on the eggshell multiplied, the entire outer shell suddenly split into two halves.
A chubby bird with a slightly goofy appearance crawled out from the eggshell.
"This bird is so ugly!"
Seeing the newly hatched bird, a look of disappointment crossed Xie Nainai's face.
Looking at the ugly bird slowly crawling out of the shell, Qin Fei felt it was quite normal. After all, in Don't Starve, this creature was given a very fitting name by players: 'Hutch'.
Ugliness was naturally par for the course.
Not long after the chubby bird crawled out of the shell, it was already capable of walking around.
The fat bird wobbled around Qin Fei and Xie Nainai in a circle, and shortly after, a cheer erupted from its beak.
"Woohoo~.... Daddy, Mommy! Why aren't you guys dragons?"
Qin Fei felt somewhat shocked.
Could this fellow actually speak human language right after birth?
Under Qin Fei's astonished gaze, the chubby bird looked Qin Fei and Xie Nainai over carefully once more, perplexed: "I'm a dragon! You two monkeys can't be my parents, right?"
The bird pondered for a moment, then came to a sudden realization and said, "I must be an orphan!"
"You're a dragon my foot! You're just a bird!"
Xie Nainai corrected it.
"Hmph, impossible!"
The chubby bird looked extremely confident, asserting with absolute certainty: "I am definitely a dragon! I remember everyone used to call me Brother Dragon!"
Xie Nainai was left somewhat speechless. She turned her head away and ignored this foolish bird.
Yet this chubby bird seemed to have something wrong with its brain; not only did it stubbornly insist it was a dragon, but it was also incredibly long-winded, acting just like a chatterbox.
The bird seemed intensely concerned with whether or not it was truly a dragon.
During the time that followed, it began chattering incessantly at the duo, repeatedly emphasizing the fact that it was a dragon.
