Chapter Thirty-Four: Military Provisions

In fact, the Shanwei Canning Factory wasn't far from the nearby survivor camp. However, since the factory was incredibly dangerous, most people didn't dare venture inside, which meant that even now, it still held a substantial stockpile of supplies.
In the game "Seven Days to Die," level-five quests were extremely perilous. Even with the system's help, marking the locations of all the zombies, there was still a certain degree of risk.
The back door of the factory had long since been forced open. Above it was a sign that read "Shanwei Foods."
Qin Fei stepped into the ground floor lobby. The space was empty, and all the cabinets stood open. It seemed that this level had already been thoroughly looted. Not even a single zombie was in sight.
A row of genuine leather sofas lined the wall, but the outer leather had vanished, apparently cut off and taken away. Soft and highly resilient, leather was a premium material for crafting in the post-apocalyptic world.
Deeper inside from the lobby lay the factory's warehouse. No sooner had Qin Fei set foot within than dozens of yellow markers flashed before his eyes—the warehouse harbored zombies.
Still, Qin Fei remained calm. The presence of zombies meant that the warehouse’s stockpile had yet to be scavenged by other survivors.
Most of the warehouse zombies sat or lay slumped in corners or beside shelves, in a dormant state. A few, however, had chosen particularly tricky hiding spots—some perched atop shelving units, heads bowed and eyes shut, while others lurked around blind corners in the aisles...
Even with the system’s prompts, Qin Fei took a long while to pinpoint all their locations. Once he was confident he had mapped out every threat, he slipped silently among them.
Swiftly, while the zombies remained in their dormant state, Qin Fei dispatched them all with well-aimed bolts from his crossbow, each shot a clean headshot.
Aside from their cunning hiding spots, these zombies posed little trouble since none were mutants.
On the warehouse shelves stood three crates, each sealed with wooden planks and labeled "Shanwei Sealed Transport Box."
Qin Fei split them open with his axe. Inside, aside from a handful of dried fruit and scrap plastic, the boxes were packed almost entirely with Shanwei canned goods.

[Shanwei Canned Food: A can of high-quality Shanwei burgers—the top producer of plant-based meat products. The lunch of champions.]
These cans came in rectangular iron tins, each emblazoned with illustrations of two burgers. Qin Fei opened one.
Each can contained two Shanwei burgers, but they were modest in size—together, they barely equaled the size of a single fast-food burger.
A Shanwei burger consisted of two slices of bread, a leaf of lettuce, some sandwich sauce, and a slice of something resembling ham.
Qin Fei took a bite. There was cheese and tangy yogurt inside. The ham did indeed have the texture of a meat patty, though the overall flavor was somewhat lacking.
Still, in the apocalypse, to taste something this good was a rare treat. And no matter what, the ham could count as a piece of meat.
After finishing the two burgers, Qin Fei packed all the canned goods from the three crates into his backpack.
Moving on from the warehouse, he entered a corridor. Across the hall lay the factory’s production workshop.
The moment Qin Fei stepped inside, a dense swarm of yellow markers instantly appeared before his eyes—zombies, everywhere!
He crouched immediately at the entrance, not daring to move a muscle. By his rough estimate, there were at least thirty zombies crowded together in this workshop.
Because of their numbers, the zombies were packed tightly together, some even right beside each other. If Qin Fei were to kill one with a crossbow bolt, the one next to it would almost certainly be startled awake.
Here, if even a single zombie awoke, it would likely rouse all the others in an instant.
Even during daylight, with zombies limited to walking, Qin Fei doubted he could break free from the encirclement of over thirty zombies and escape alive.
It was wiser to slip away quietly.
Crouching low, Qin Fei began to slowly retreat. On the shelf above his head, he spotted a crate marked with an image of a firearm.
He paused.
From his experience with "Seven Days to Die," crates bearing firearm symbols usually contained gun parts—and if luck held, perhaps even a fully assembled gun.

Although the workshop hid many zombies, the shelf itself was clear.
Qin Fei stood up, dragged over a nylon sack filled with miscellaneous items, and used it as a makeshift step.
Now he could just reach the crate.
Like the Shanwei crates, it was sealed with wooden boards, labeled "Shotgun Savior Sealed Box"...
Qin Fei needed to find a way to open it quietly. He drew a small knife from his backpack and began carefully working at the edges.
He dared not use his axe—though it would have been quicker, the noise would certainly alert the zombies.
Slow and steady with the knife was safer.
After what seemed like ages, Qin Fei finally managed to carve out a small opening, just large enough for two fists.
That was enough.
He reached inside and felt around.
His fingers found a small roll of green cord.
[Polymer Bowstring: Crafted from special materials, this bowstring grants greater speed and range to arrows fired from bows or crossbows.]
An excellent find! This polymer bowstring was far superior to the makeshift ones Qin Fei had crafted from animal sinew. Though he hadn't found a gun, in his eyes, this bowstring was worth even more.
Besides the bowstring, Qin Fei pulled out a pouch of gunpowder.
In the world of "Seven Days to Die," gunpowder was not traditional black powder, but a refined product made from coal and nitrates. Whether for making bullets or explosives, gunpowder was invaluable for dealing with zombies.
After stowing away the gunpowder, the nylon sack beneath his feet suddenly gave way with a loud snap, spilling its contents across the floor.
The noise seemed to rouse something—a fat zombie, hidden on the workshop ceiling, abruptly dropped down beside Qin Fei.
This obese zombie differed slightly from the one Qin Fei had encountered at the bakery—it wore a police uniform and cap.
At the sight of that familiar outfit, Qin Fei recognized it instantly.
It was a military brute...
