Chapter 45: Virtual Helmet
Would you like to exchange it? Xiunan wasn't quite sure.
There was no description for the Heart of the Ring surgery, but he recalled the introduction to the Hunter Game had once mentioned the reason for this Agent Game: the nine gray syndicates wanted to resolve the allocation of ring resources.
Clearly, "ring" resources must be extremely precious.
There was no reason to hesitate.
He chose directly!
"You have consumed rewards ①③⑤."
"Reward changed to ⑥: Heart of the Ring Surgery."
"You will receive the following rewards:"
[①: A large sum of cash]
[②: Full Assassin Ability Package (top tier)]
[③: Heart of the Ring Surgery]
"Rewards have been issued. Please wait a moment."
The screen dimmed, and when it lit up again, Kashu had returned to the standby hall, walking forward.
Beneath his feet was that endless road that could never be finished.
His character panel flickered slightly.
He clicked in to see that the Full Assassin Ability Package had been credited, and Kashu's combat power had risen to the top tier.
Of course, this referred to the top among ordinary people.
The large sum of cash had also arrived; the Seven Letters Group was generous, directly granting Kashu five million star coins.
A five in front, followed by a string of zeros—just looking at it was satisfying. Though it was only virtual currency in the game, Xiunan still felt the thrill of wealth.
Next was reward three, the Heart of the Ring Surgery, which was still buffering, a red progress bar inching forward.
Xiunan had just moved the mouse when something else popped up—a cascade of subtitles streamed down the screen.
"Congratulations, you have unlocked the Game Store."
[Game Store]
[Points: 10 + 2×7 + 5 = 29]
[Section 1. Permanent Pool: The store always has twenty permanent items available for points exchange]
[Section 2. Mini-game Pool: After each mini-game, the store refreshes six items from the game]
[Section 3. Blind Box: Random reward draw]
Xiunan checked his points and understood where each number came from. Ten points were awarded for winning the final victory in the game and for the vast gap between himself and the second place. If he only won the Hunter Game, he would get five points; the greater the gap with second place, the more points, up to ten.
Xiunan had earned the maximum points possible.
After all, Hunter Three didn't dare show up at all, and for a long stretch, Kashu was the only one hunting freely.
Fourteen points came from eliminating other competitors—two points per head, seven in total.
If only he'd thought to deal with Hunter Three at the end as well.
Xiunan felt a twinge of regret.
The last five points were a bonus—Kashu hunted ten extraordinary creatures and obtained the Instinct Evolution Rune.
Xiunan had thought the Instinct Evolution Rune was already a great boon, but hadn't expected to earn points afterward as well.
It seemed he should look for more hidden bonuses in the future.
He shifted his gaze to the Game Store.
Clicking on the Permanent Pool, he browsed the various items.
① [Name: Disciplined Life]
[Type: Special Item]
[Feature: Rapidly increases strength and skill familiarity]
[Price: Twenty points per day]
② [Name: Weapon Warehouse]
[Type: Special Item]
[Feature: Can store various weapons and equipment, similar to a portable space]
[Price: Twenty]
[Note: Initial warehouse comes with two equipment slots]
③ [Name: Red Special Bullet]
[Type: Ammunition]
[Feature: Explosive! Explosive! Explosive!]
[Price: Ten points each]
[Note: Each red special bullet is adaptive and can be fired from any firearm. Its explosive power rivals a grenade.]
④ [Name: Yellow Special Bullet]
...
He scrolled through, itching to buy, but most were out of reach. The items past bullets were too expensive—the cheapest was fifty points. The most expensive item broke the four-digit mark!
[Name: Ring—Moonhowl Panther]
[Type: Ring]
[Level: Two-ring Ghoststeel]
[Feature: The Moonhowl Panther imprint grants extreme mobility and powerful attack. Its claws, at full force, can tear apart a main battle tank.]
[Price: 1257 points]
[Note: A ring master must have compatible traits with the Moonhowl Panther to construct its model. Otherwise, forced imprinting will lead to ring tears at best, explosion at worst.]
The description contained some special terms Xiunan couldn't understand yet, but it seemed to be some kind of superpower.
It must be a formidable combat ability; after all, it could tear apart a tank, and its price was in four digits!
Xiunan felt a surge of desire but suppressed it for now, calmly turning to Section Two of the store.
The mini-game pool contained various firearms—six in total, all shotguns provided to hunters by the organizers.
Some were cheap, some were expensive.
For example, the Terror Roar Heavy Shotgun and the Wanderer Deadly Shotgun both exceeded two hundred points.
After all, these were extraordinary guns with special abilities...
Unaffordable, unaffordable.
Then came Section Three: the random blind box draw.
Three points per draw, the blind box could give rewards of any level—possibly something good, or just a "Thank you for participating." There was also a special offer for first-time buyers: buy one blind box, get ten free.
Xiunan didn't act rashly. He first returned to Section One and spent twenty points to buy the Weapon Warehouse.
Only nine points remained when he returned to the blind box page.
No need to explain; he simply feared he'd get carried away with the draws and end up with nothing but "Thank you for participating," losing even the warehouse money.
"Come on, let's test my luck."
Xiunan rubbed his hands together and made his choice.
Thirteen boxes lined up neatly on the page.
Click—he tapped lightly.
A flash of white light swept across the screen.
"Thank you for participating! (* ̄3 ̄)╭♡"
The first box yielded nothing, but Xiunan had expected as much. He calmly clicked one after another.
Swipe, swipe, swipe... The screen was filled with white light.
Xiunan's expression twisted; eleven consecutive blind boxes yielded nothing—all were "Thank you for participating," plus that final cheeky emoticon.
He clicked again—a flash of blue light.
Finally, something appeared!
[Name: Black Long Tube Stockings]
[Type: Clothing]
[Description: Stockings were originally invented for men, so there's no shame in wearing them on the street!]
[Note: Beware if you have vigorous leg hair]
No real use—just a simple piece of clothing. Besides, the description was inaccurate; men nowadays are nothing like before, and generally don't wear stockings unless they're robbing a bank and need something to put over their heads.
He ignored it and clicked the last box.
Duang! Golden legend.
An item appeared quietly on the screen.
[Name: Virtual Helmet]
[Type: ??????]
[Function: ??????]
[Description: Do you wish to understand the meaning of life? Do you want to truly... live? YES / NO]
