Chapter 117: Aunt Is Coming?
“Bai Muqing?”
Zhang Mingyang hadn’t expected the person who entered to be Bai Muqing.
“Sister Bai, what are you doing here?” When Zhang Mingyang saw the boxed meal in her hand, he immediately understood.
Bai Muqing glanced around the room, noticing no one else was present, then placed the meal on the dining table.
“I’m just here to bring you some food.”
With that, she opened the box, preparing to feed Zhang Mingyang.
Seeing her intention, Zhang Mingyang quickly stopped her. “Sister Bai, no need—I just ate.”
“You ate?”
Zhang Mingyang nodded. “My two senior brothers just left; they even packed this for me.” He lifted his mechanical arm for her to see.
Looking at the mechanical arm, Bai Muqing gently touched it and asked with concern, “Does your wound still hurt?”
“No, it doesn’t!” Zhang Mingyang replied promptly.
Since Bai Muqing had come in, her expression and tone were unusually gentle, which felt strange to Zhang Mingyang, who was used to her fierce demeanor.
“Sister Bai, I heard you took care of me during the days I was unconscious?”
Hearing this, Bai Muqing quickly turned her head away, avoiding his gaze, then whispered, “I heard you were injured. If you were badly hurt, how could you have come home with me to explain things?”
“So that’s why!”
Zhang Mingyang realized that her care was meant to distance herself from him. I get it now—she’s with that pretty boy! He replied, “Sister Bai, don’t worry. This injury will heal in about a month. After that, I’ll definitely come home with you to explain everything.”
Hearing that he intended to return home, Bai Muqing felt secretly pleased but maintained a calm expression. “That won’t be necessary. You don’t need to come home with me.”
“Oh.”
Looking at his severed arm, Zhang Mingyang thought, I didn’t expect I’d lose the privilege of going home with her.
Bai Muqing continued, “I mean, you don’t have to come home with me because my mother is coming to the hospital to see you in a few days.”
“Oh.”
“What?”
Zhang Mingyang was stunned. Had he heard correctly? “Sister Bai, you said your mother is coming here to see me?”
Bai Muqing nodded. “My mother is also a researcher at the base. She heard about your situation and wants to meet you.”
Hearing this, Zhang Mingyang felt hopeful. “Sister Bai, when exactly is your mother coming?”
Bai Muqing shook her head. “I don’t know. She said she wants to come alone and doesn’t want me to go with her.”
“That’s great!”
Zhang Mingyang was secretly excited. When Auntie arrives, I’ll have a good talk with her about that pretty boy. How could someone like that be worthy of Bai Muqing?
“There’s one more thing.”
Bai Muqing said shyly, “My mother said she wants to assess you.”
“Assess me?”
Looking at Bai Muqing’s expression, Zhang Mingyang was taken aback. What? Assess me? For what? Could it be she wants me to be their best man?
His imagination ran wild.
After saying this, Bai Muqing hurried out.
Seeing her leave, Zhang Mingyang called out, “Hey, Sister Bai, wait! You forgot your boxed meal!”
...
Since Bai Muqing mentioned her mother would come, Zhang Mingyang made sure to take a shower, change clothes, and even get a haircut over the next few days.
“Why hasn’t she come yet? It’s been several days. Could Auntie have secretly come and left already?”
Lying in bed, Zhang Mingyang recalled the visitors over the past few days: “The two senior brothers, teachers, Grandpa Wang, and some leaders. Not many middle-aged women came, and those who did were mostly officials.”
The more he thought about it, the stranger it seemed. Maybe she’s not coming?
“Knock knock!”
There was a knock at the door.
“Could it be Auntie?”
Zhang Mingyang quickly called out, “Come in!”
“Junior brother, I have some important news...!”
“Brother Tian? How come it’s you?” It was Tian Wenyuan who entered.
Tian Wenyuan’s words were interrupted halfway as he looked at Zhang Mingyang with a smile. “What’s up? Looks like you’re waiting for someone?”
Zhang Mingyang hurriedly replied, “No! I thought it was a nurse bringing medicine. It’s time to take my meds, and she hasn’t come yet, so I was just anxious.”
“Doesn’t seem like it.”
Tian Wenyuan paced around, eyeing him. “You’re definitely waiting for someone, and it’s a woman!”
“This...!”
Zhang Mingyang knew Tian Wenyuan’s knack for reading relationships, especially between men and women. “Brother Tian, I’m—oh, by the way, you mentioned important news when you came in. What is it?”
He quickly changed the subject.
“Oh!” Tian Wenyuan slapped his thigh. “I almost forgot. Junior brother, we’ve found the Black Hole organization’s base!”
“What?”
Zhang Mingyang jumped off the bed, wincing at his wound. “Brother, you mean we located the Black Hole organization’s stronghold?”
Tian Wenyuan nodded excitedly. “Last week, the electronics department intercepted a mysterious code sent outside the base. They handed it to the decoding team, who spent three days breaking it. It turned out to be the location of magnetic boxes sent by an internal spy to the Black Hole organization.”
“The base used this code to capture a high-level spy hiding within the base, then used the code to lure out a stronghold less than forty kilometers from the base. Yesterday, the Space Force raided the stronghold, arrested more than a dozen people, and they are now being interrogated.”
“That’s wonderful!”
Zhang Mingyang clenched his fists. This news was the best consolation for the fallen Black Panther and Crab.
“Brother, did they get any information about where the Black Hole organization’s headquarters is?”
Tian Wenyuan shook his head. “The interrogation just started today; results aren’t that fast. These dozen or so people have been tight-lipped. They’re probably middle management in the organization.”
“Brother, I’m increasingly convinced that Wang Huairen’s disappearance is closely linked to Jin Yaowen. Maybe he was killed by Jin Yaowen.”
“No way!”
Tian Wenyuan directly refuted him.
“Why not?” Zhang Mingyang asked, puzzled.
Tian Wenyuan explained, “Jin Yaowen claims he wants to erase Wang Huairen’s existence, but I don’t think he’s erasing him; I think he wants to seize all of Wang Huairen’s technology.”
“Why? Brother Tian, is there any basis for this?”
“Yes!”
Tian Wenyuan continued, “If Jin Yaowen truly wanted to erase all traces of Wang Huairen, he could have just blown up the entire base. Why go through all this trouble searching for Wang Huairen’s information?”
“Another point is that Jin Yaowen would never kill Wang Huairen. Why? Because Jin Yaowen needs Wang Huairen’s technology. That’s why the magnetic boxes are so important. If Jin Yaowen really caught Wang Huairen, he needs his knowledge, not just his corpse.”
“At first, I wasn’t completely sure, but since yesterday, after hearing a certain phrase from the captured Black Hole members, I’m certain Jin Yaowen would never kill Wang Huairen!”
