“All right, miss.”

If he could not leave, how was he supposed to spend the next few days?

“Oh, right! I nearly forgot something.”

The young nurse took an envelope from her pocket. “Someone left this letter at the information desk yesterday. It’s addressed to you.”

Zhang Mingyang accepted the envelope, and the nurse waved before leaving the room.

Looking at the black envelope, Zhang Mingyang grumbled, “What era are we living in? Who still writes letters? Just like Grandpa Wang.”

He held the envelope in his left hand and tore open the seal with his mechanical hand. A sheet of paper slipped out. It contained only the name of a website.

“What the hell is this?”

He shook the envelope again, and a photograph fell out.

“This is…!”

Zhang Mingyang stared at the photograph in astonishment. It showed none other than his father, Zhang Boyang.

“This…! Why is there a picture of my father?”

Remembering the website written on the paper, Zhang Mingyang quickly took out his computer and logged in. After a flurry of keystrokes, he successfully accessed the site.

There were no words or images on the website—only a thirty-second video.

Zhang Mingyang clicked on it, and Jin Yaowen suddenly appeared.

That was right—it was Jin Yaowen!

In the video, his hair was white and his eyes were dull. He looked utterly exhausted.

“Son of Zhang Boyang, I never thought I would meet you in this way. I was deeply distressed to hear that you had lost an arm. You should never have become involved. This is a war between Wang Huairen and me—a war between hope and destruction. You should not have gone to Pollux. That place will destroy all of humanity.

“I have sent you a book called The Resource Game. I hope you have already read it. All the answers are in that book!”

As soon as he finished speaking, the thirty seconds were up, and the computer screen suddenly went black.

“Huh? What happened?”

Zhang Mingyang slapped the computer, but it did not respond. He hurriedly restarted it and entered the website address again, but this time the site was invalid.

He understood. The website had only been accessible for thirty seconds, and it had automatically deactivated after the video was watched.

“I’m such an idiot! I should have recorded it beforehand!”

Zhang Mingyang tried several more times, but the result was the same. The website had already been shut down.

“Damn it!”

He tossed the computer aside and lay back on the bed, replaying Jin Yaowen’s words in his mind.

“What did he mean? A war between him and Wang Huairen, and a war between hope and destruction? Why did he tell me not to get involved in the Energy Project? And, above all, what did he mean by saying that all the answers were in The Resource Game?”

These questions left Zhang Mingyang completely bewildered. Why did Jin Yaowen have a photograph of his father? And why had he told him about all this?

“My head hurts!”

Zhang Mingyang scratched his head, unable to make sense of any of it.

“Right! I’ll start by finding the person who delivered the letter.”

He quickly pressed the call button and summoned the nurse.

A short while later, the beautiful nurse entered the room.

“What is it?”

Holding up the envelope, Zhang Mingyang asked, “Miss, do you know who delivered this letter?”

The nurse shook her head. “I don’t know. It was left at the information desk, and the nurse on duty asked me to give it to you.”

“Could you call the nurse who was on duty that day? I want to ask her about the person who delivered it. He’s a friend of mine.”

The nurse thought for a moment. “Wait here. I’ll go find her.”

“All right. Sorry to trouble you.”

After the nurse left, Zhang Mingyang immediately called his two senior fellow disciples.

Ten minutes later, the nurse who had been on duty that day entered the room.

“What can I do for you, handsome?”

Holding up the envelope, Zhang Mingyang asked, “Miss, do you remember who gave this to you?”

The nurse looked at the envelope and thought for a moment.

“I remember now. I think it was a little girl. She said it was a thank-you letter for you.”

“A little girl? Why would a little girl deliver it?”

Zhang Mingyang continued, “Do you know who she was?”

The nurse shook her head. “No. I see so many people every day that I can’t remember everyone. In any case, she wasn’t one of the patients staying nearby.”

“Oh!”

Zhang Mingyang considered it and realized that this made sense. If Jin Yaowen wanted to send a letter, he would certainly choose someone uninvolved.

“All right, then. Thank you for your help.”

“It’s no trouble. Call me if you need anything.”

“Sure.”

The nurse left the room. Zhang Mingyang realized that all he could do now was wait for his two senior fellow disciples.

Two hours later, Tian Wenyuan and Peng Dongli rushed into the room.

“What happened, junior brother? What’s so urgent?”

Zhang Mingyang was lying on the bed. When he saw them arrive, he immediately called them over.

“Senior brothers, something major has happened. Jin Yaowen sent me a video!”

“What?”

The two men practically sprang off the bed.

“You mean Jin Yaowen sent you a video?”

Zhang Mingyang nodded. “That’s right. Yesterday, a little girl left a letter at the information desk. The nurse gave it to me a few hours ago. There was a website inside, and the website contained a video of Jin Yaowen.”

“Where is the video? Hurry up and let us see it!”

“Don’t even mention it.” Zhang Mingyang slapped the computer and replied, “The video was only thirty seconds long. After I finished watching it, the entire website disappeared. It must have had a self-destruct function after viewing.”

“What did Jin Yaowen say in the video?”

Zhang Mingyang repeated the contents of the video to them word for word.

After listening, the two men reacted just as he had earlier.

“A war between the two of them? And that book of yours? What does any of this mean?”

Tian Wenyuan had never seen The Resource Game before. He turned to Peng Dongli and asked, “Old Peng, do you know this book?”

Peng Dongli nodded. “Our junior brother gave it to me, and I read it. It mainly discusses various resources, then goes on to describe the wars fought over those resources. It’s an extremely aggressive book—almost as if it were written by a war fanatic.”

“There’s actually a book like that?”

Peng Dongli’s description made Tian Wenyuan eager to read it.

“Junior brother, send me a copy when you have time.”

“Sure.”

“What are you two doing? This isn’t a book club.”

Peng Dongli interrupted them.

“The most important thing now is to find Jin Yaowen. According to our junior brother, a little girl delivered the letter. Our first task is to find that girl and ask who gave her the envelope.

“Old Tian, go to the hospital’s security office and check the surveillance footage from that day. Find an image of the girl. I’ll report this to Director Wang and ask him to help track her down.”

“All right!”

With their responsibilities assigned, the two men prepared to leave.

“Wait!”

Zhang Mingyang called them back.

“You two both have something to do. What about me? I can’t just sit here and wait, can I?”

Peng Dongli looked at him and smiled.

“Your job is to recover. Stay here and rest properly. If you insist on having something to do, then decipher the contents of the video and find out what secret it contains.”

“I…”

Zhang Mingyang had been about to object, but after thinking it over, he decided that having something to occupy himself with was better than nothing.
